Could someone please tell me a way in which to mod the game and get a party of black knights

Use the last version of the unofficial editor. Open one of the low level units, vaegir peasant for example. Notice the first upgrade is shown as vaegir footman at bottom left. Change this to dark knight. And be thankful to Effidian who has prepared such a great tool.
