black ground texture / resize scene

Users who are viewing this thread

Hi there,

I'm currently working on a village scene and have a problem with missing/black ground texture on a big part of the map.

I read here that the map might be too big and therefor there is now texture.
So the questions are: can it be fixed?
And if not: is it possible to change the size of the map without generating new terrain (i.e. cut away the black parts of the map, as it's too big actually). I hope I don't have to redo the whole scene.

hmm, that is strange.  I don't know much about scene editing, but I'll try and give some suggestions....

first, did you modify the terrain code?  It is the value I have highlighted in red.

If you enable edit mode you can click on the Terrain button in the bottom left to go to the terrain generator.  From here you can generate a terrain code, and my guess is you modified this but some values are messed up.  I know there is a polygon size and map size in this generator, so my guess would be one of these settings is too low.  My suggestion would be to:

a) take the original terrain code for village_25 which I highlighted in red above and paste it into the Terrain Generator
b) this should show you what the current polygon size and map size are for that scene (don't change them)
c) then, you can switch the terrain, hill hight, tree's, etc, without modifying the overall size of the terrain
d) copy and paste the new code (backup the old one) and see if that removes the black area

If that does fix it, then compare the working code to your terrain code.  If only the polygon size was different then try switching that size in your terrain code and see if that hopefully doesn't require your scene to be re-built...  I don't understand what the polygon size or map size really do in the terrain generator, but I wonder if the size changes depending on if it is a town/castle/village, etc.  So if you are going to be editing a scene in the future then you probably want to paste the current terrain code for that scene, don't modify the polygon or map size, but you should be fine to edit the other settings.

If you didn't modify the terrain code or this didn't fix it then I'm not sure what happened....

FYI - I believe I added an "outer_terrain_desert" to the last beta release, so if you put that in the area I have highlighted in blue it will make the edge of your map look better.

i changed the polygon size from two to four. now the black texture is gone. but i had to excavate my village. no problem because i studied archeology
thank you hokie. need to finish the ai mesh, then i send it to you.
