I wouldn't mind that. If the game does have a storyline or main quest, perhaps this current area can just be the first location of several or even many. Once you complete the main quest of this area, you can move onto a new one.
It would be nice to a different type of map. A desert, for example.

I keep thinking of a big quest to 'pacify the kherghit hordes', which re/opens the roads to middle eastern and monogolian style areas.

The map needs more size and lots of different areas, like mountains, swamps, deserts, plains, great forests etc. And it needs history. Now we know about the world just that there is two kingdoms fighting each other. Why are they fighting, how long they have been fighting etc.

The Swadians once ruled all of Caladria, but the Vaegirs united together to rebel and tried to invade, but the Swadians beat them into the stalemate there is now.
