Better lance to use?

the jouting lance as it delivers less but blunt damage than the great lance, same range and since you'd be probably couching it doing 90hp damage vs 150hp damage (from a great lance) you'd do one hit kills anyway and get lots of prisoners (especially effective for that baldie noble bastard)

*shrug* it's how I get my money.

I have come to like the usual "lance", it´s got a nice range and is still rather fast. I find it useful on horseback as well as on foot. But I still use to take a sword with me.

Yeah the 'Lance' is my favourite too - you can actually use it to stab people with, whereas the GL is couch only really. Once you get used to the shorter length its cool. The double lance is shorter still, but does more damage so is even more a non-couch weapon, but I find it better to use a non polearm .

My former character (0.702 ) used initially double sided lance, but I that it was near useless in couched lance (against mounted units), because nearly every other spear was longer. So I changed to regular lance. I did pretty good with it unmounted too.

I use throwing lances, why? Because im better than you.

I use double edged lance too becuse the great lance is almost useless if I lose my steed.
That's why you have 2 extra weapon slots (3 if you don't like shields).

And the lance is complemented by a bastard sword or an axe. Both aren't much use against spearmen. I'll stick 'em with me double sided lance.

Jousting lance all the way. Way more prisoners than I can handle that way. It's also the longest lance in the game, ever so slightly longer than the great lance.
Though I've got a great lance in inventory for when I fight dark knights and need that extra punch.
I carry a bastard sword and some throwing daggers for backup, like if I get unhorsed.

Too bad couched lance damage is screwy in .703.

Anyone else notice how the arena opponents seem rather amazing at using their lances on foot if the AI is set to the highest level? Mainly the heroes.
What I mean by that is, if you unhorse them as a lancer yourself and try to ride up and get a couched lance hit on them, quite often they'll jab their lance forward at just the right time (giving them a longer reach) and hit you juuuust before your couched lance hits them, disrupting you so you don't even hit them. Annoying in a way, but I can't blame them for having good timing.
Had Dranton on foot earlier and he kept doing that; after 3 passes in a row like that (and low health), I just started keeping my shield up instead and ended up trampling him to death with that crappy practice horse. Damn I love this game.

The best lance as it is now (7.02) is the poleaxe
It has 180 reach, 80+ speed and 35 cutting damage if you happen to lose you steed. The only drawback it can not be used with a shield.
