Better control over sounds (music, SFX, recorded dialogue)

M&B as it currently stands gives a modder very limited control over music and sound effects. Voice-overs, currently attempted in 1066, don't really work very well at all -- if the player reads faster than the recorded dialogue plays, he ends up with half a dozen different lines of conversation falling over each other. Serious ambient or background music, similarly, is very difficult (even though not quite impossible) -- particularly if one wants to explicitly stop it when a scene or event within a scene ends.

So, looking to the hoped-for future of ASLOW and the present of a number of other mods, I propose the addition of the following areas of functionality:

  • A play_sound_continuous operation, which would play a given sound until ordered to stop, with an optional delay.
  • A halt_sound operation which, passed the name of a sound, would cut it off, with an optional fade-out length.
  • Support, perhaps, for MP3-formatted "sounds" and OGG-formatted "music", though this isn't too immediately related to the rest of this...

So, comments? And I apologize if this post sounds too harsh -- I'm trying to ape RFE diction here, which may not have been the best of ideas...
