Beta Patch Notes e1.9.0

I just had a scroll through and found older posts asking about ambushes and for fear of repeating the same dialogue as them I found Bloc's video of how ambushes might work, but according to one of his comments on the video, it was considered "too boring" to implement by TW.

Perhaps that would be the case, but I like the idea of it, especially how the principle of it is to attack the enemy's formation when they are all muddled up together. However, as you said, it's how it affects the game as a whole, and if it was my choice it would be the suggestion you brought forward, where both the player and AI could implement one. It would need to have a heavy toll on the units waiting/camping for an ambush, otherwise it would be overused and a massive ballache walking around the campaign map. I don't think the campaign map AI would be able to use it effectively in their current/near future state either.

I love Bloc and his mods, all of his mod concepts are incredibly cool, but I don't know how some of his mods can be implemented in a game like this as part of the base game. I would love for the devs to implement Freelancer/serve as a soldier and his version of missing Warband features (although only if feasts are rebalanced) to the base game and they're probably quite feasible additions. I can't imagine the headache the devs would have if they tried to implement ambushes and assassinations (unless assassinations could only be done as a quest, then it would be a fun RPG mechanic) as fair and balanced mechanics that the AI could do.

An entrance fee is quite contra productive, as tourneys are used to get a decent starting gear together. The introduction of better prices may be a bit much, but nothing really new in 1.9.0. You could get a decent prize as soon as the reward was changed by the number of attending lords.

IMHO they should return the ability to command your tourney members as you could in Warband. Nothing is more annoying than your team splitting up and getting defeated in detail.

By the way you can crank the difficulty up in the campaign options screen (either the AI capability or the amount of damage you will get) and you can also disable automatic blocking.

There's decent starting gear and there's the stuff you can win in tournments which is by far the most easily obtainable early on. At least split the tourny into a commoner and noble event, the latter with much better prizes but a bar to enter too early in your career.

Also, suffice to say I am playing on maximum difficulty. Tournaments are simply a piece of piss.

- Still missing feasts.
Yes.
- Lots of quests I still just categorically ignore because they are out of balance in terms of the negative results.
Yep. I basically don't bother with quests that raise my relation with one notable in exchange for lowering it with another notable/group of notables.

I do like the ones that give you the option of buying your way out of the resultant conflict of interests though.
Workshops are a mixed bag, because they're not really good "passive" income. You need to be very observant with your workshop selections and need to be relatively active in checking the production in the same and neighbouring towns (maybe once pear year?), your output can't also be too profitable, just decently profitable, otherwise caravans will flood the market with the supply of the same goods from other towns and cause your workshops to make no profit.
Workshops just aren't worth using in general (as Flesson's videos have demonstrated) because they have a high upfront cost and need micromanaging, in order to make an amount of money that is dwarfed by just looting from regular battles.

Taleworlds should really reduce the buy price of workshops.

not too soon. as it was mercenary troops were severely lacking in content. primarily we want them to be expensive but fast way to get some decent troops but they should not have the same potential as state troops (both cost and power wise), so they will not override regular troop raising methods. we want to do more with them but not just by simply adding more troops into the mix. at this stage we wanted to have some mercs that both feel out of place in their regions but will also will fill same gaps if you were to hire them with other factions.
How did you guys come to the philosophy that Mercenary troops shouldn't perform aswell as state troops? Mercenaries were proffesional soldier before that was a wide spread convention and as such were generally better trained and equipted than all but the most knightly nobility. State troops not fighting all year round like mercenaries did.

That aside under your own balance philosphy of a "fast way to get some decent troops but they should not have the same potential" They seem to me to fail in that regard too.
As it is after maybe the first few game years notables tend to gain enough power in most settlements that finding troops at tier 2 and 3 is not at all uncommon. Add to this noble troops starting at tier 2 and often available at tier 3. Many of the tier 3 nobles perofrm at above their tier level in gear and proficenices. All well and good they are "elite" noble troops.

It is not as though everytime mercenaries are availible to hire they are Tier 4 and 5, they are just as often in my experience tier 3. So we can see they arent much "faster" than regular state troops as far as tier is concerned, and avoiding the need to be upgraded.

Then comes the issue of their gear, which not in every case but generally sits about a tier below State troops, so the tier 5 infantry has a tier 4 troops gear. their tier 4 such as the Mercenary Maceman has tier 3 gear.
So while I can hire a mercenary at tier 4 or 5. I'm getting the power of a tier 3 or 4 troop.
So again barely faster than a state troop.

The greatest change in troops stats also generally happens in the upgrade between tier 4 and 5 with many infantry and cavalry going from 25 to 60 body armour or 30 to 50. So being a tier 5 troop in tier 4 armour is a hell of a lot worse than being a tier 4 troop in tier 3 armour.
I dont think the 30 weapon proffeciencies difference makes up for this short fall of equipment, 2.1% weapon speed and 4.5% damage make little difference compared to the weapon that is equip in the first place.

But now I am also supposed to pay Tier 6 wages at 18 denars for my tier 5 merc which has the power of a tier 4 troop??
I can "fast" recruit my tier 4 mercenary troop without having to upgrade it, except its actually as strong as a tier 3 troop and has the wage of a tier 5 troop. So while much more expensive it not that much faster, primarily because the troop is not "decent".

I do like that you guys chose to expand the cultural diversirty of the mercenaries though, adds to world immersion and fullness.

Do you think while adding this content you could have had an intern or a community member check the equipment loadouts though? As it stands the Hired Pikeman has more body armour than its upgrade the Elite Hired pikeman and the Sellsword has more body armour than its upgrade the Merceneary Maceman, who also losses the Sell Swords Javelin. Thats just what I noticed when I took a brief looks at the new troops out of curiosity.

Also, I was unable to equip the dragon banner after I loaded up my old 1.8.1 save in 1.9.0 despite assembling all 3 pieces. Not sure if you need to actually form your own kingdom, but rather I had inherited the southern empire from a passed away Rhagaea so I wasn't about to do that.
Could you send us your save file on 1.9.0?

I think RBM has this sorted now doesn't it? The opponent's you face in the tournament are based off your skill level, so if you are just starting out, you will be out against low-tier troops. In saying that, I still wish wooden weapons were apart of the tournaments and it still looks dopey hacking away at nobles with a 50kg battle axe and blood going everywhere.
You know what's even more jarring than that?

"DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
"YOUUUU BASTAAAAAAAAARD"

- Why does the campaign prevent me from getting married after I have talked to the 10 people? Makes no sense and I'll have to restart a playthrough.
What was the prevention you faced while doing this? There should not be any feature that limits this. Do you have a save file of this issue in particular that we can take a look?

It would be so much better if they yelled "NO FULL AUTO INSIDE THE ARENA! BRO CHILL!!"

Or when you have 100 relations with a lady, and she's happy to see you every time you show up, but then you marry her, and her expression defaults to 😐 and 0 relations

"😐 Did you bring back eggs from Spotia in which I sent a messenger out you to remind you? No? You forgot again? 😑😞😠😡"

Wife should have more function but i guess its too late for that. We could send them to characters of our choice(perhaps ladies only) to gain relationship with them, they could boost the stats of our growing children, they could save money, all of these would depend on our relationship levels with them.

Your wife will be literally pregnant but the moment you speak with her she's just 😐 and won't even bring up the baby into a conversation. NPCs in this game are the true depiction of full nihilism, just breeding and killing

I am really liking this update, to be honest. Also the banners in the battles make it a lot more immersive. I can't wait until full release and the things they update and add after.

The performance update & the banners were both great additions. In terms of core functionality Bannerlord is everything I wanted (excluding the MP server issues).. The problem is the 'fluff'; diplomacy, RPG aspects, - stuff to make the world feel alive. As much as I enjoy bannerlord - it misses the charm Warband oozed.
