Beta Patch Notes e1.5.0

So you don´t have villages in your game without a single notable? You don´t have those missing textures? The newly added perks work (the combat part)? Quests are also fine?

Can you give me your save game?

It´s fine if your game runs like as it is supposed to be.
I don't go to villages or talk to notables so I wouldn't know, my playstyle is: smith, collect heroes, get good gear and fight bandits and recruit an army from my prisoners constantly fight to keep morale at 75 and try to level leadership so I can turn my bandit army into elites. And then at one point I'll decided to carve out my own kingdom once my army is strong enough or when my trade skill is strong enough to trade settlements.

Since today I experience crashes when trying to do the street fights and talking to lords though, and I said I do have the texture issues ocasionally

Before 1.5 I didn't suffer any of the bugs they keep listing in their bug fixes but then again, most of my game is: traveling fighting smithing and trading. I don't even siege battle and choose to win sieges via bombarding the place with Trebuchets until everyone is dead so not too many of my troops die

If I deviate from my play style I get uneasy in my head or always end up doing the same with occasionally changing a detail like in my current play style I'm only recruiting empire infantry in series of 8 To have a contibernium and when I have 80 infantry I have a century (10 contiberniae) and if I have 5 century's I have a cohort. And I place them in a deep shieldwall to mimick the roman fighting. I have 32 infantry thus far (and 2 hero Centurions) it's nice to see them in a 4 rows formation with 8 men facing the enemy and the 2 shieldless centurions in the back (I wish the captain would stand next to the formation but you can't have everything I guess. I won't be able to get a full legion of 10 Cohorts obviously but maybe I can get 2 Cohorts or I can make cool formations and treat the centuries the way cohorts would be used etc...

and I'm starting to ramble sorry

Well, I have to say that Battanians are not worth playing anymore : no village quest, no interresting wanderers, missing textures everywhere. Each update feels like a rollback when you like Batanian. Time has come to give Sturgia a try.

Sturgians have had some love lately. With Veteran Warriors now having javs, they might be the best infantry in game. They look better than Legionaries on paper, basically the same except 5 javs instead of 1 pilum. Archers are still below average though.

I agree, the veteran warriors can hold off an infantry unit 2-3 times their number. The only gripe I have with them is their stupid looking cone helmets, god they look bad, who the hell designed it? I hope it gets changed but it seems like they're going to stay like that ughh..The helmet would look better without the gold rectangular bits on the chainmail.

It fits their Rus design well I'd say, remember these guys become the Vaegir

Too bad not all factions come with at least some kind of horse archer. Even if just javs, all factions should have something. Only Aserai, Empire, and Khuzait have one.

Battania and Sturgia have javelin cavalry. Sturgian Hardened Brigands and Horse Raiders, Battanian Mounted Skirmishers. Only Vlandia does not have any form of mounted ranged troop.

Should they have a mounted range unit? What would be a historically accurate mounted range unit for Valandia? even without mounted range units they're still good, imagine if they had one =)

Just a guess but the fact that notables are dissapearing could be related with the new death feature introduced in the beta. They might be dying from old age but there is no (or doesn't work) mechanic to create new notables?
To me while not game breaking, especially in villages it is a major issue, less relation now to recruit, harder to help landowners get noble lines, and less quests in general I am shocked they haven't had someone on this, almost forces you not to play realistic recruitment. Getting notables back in villages and restoring quest frequency should be a higher(not top) priority

Should be top priority, the missing textures don´t impact the gameplay. Should have been fixed 1 day after the beta was released in my opinion or shouldn´t have happened at all.

And this update feels more like 1.4.4 not like 1.5.0

Frankish cavalry was renowned for throwing axes they called francescas but I think it is fine that Vlandia doesn't have a mounted ranged unit.

try to level leadership so I can turn my bandit army into elites.
You can give most types of bandits to a companion (or garrisons) to upgrade to elites if you want to skip leadership. I have a routine too and I find leadership just too slow if you don't be a vassal and lead armies, which Isn't part of my routine. I get money from beating minor faction, get married/pregnant, make 30ish HA and fight khuzaits, take all prisoner rescues units, get 50K + saved, take chaikand. I don't like wasting men on the siege attack either so I bring down the walls or if I'm in a pickle I'll kill them on the walls myself with the warband retreated. Then I do the notables quests form my new fiefs. SO far I think I was fast enough to keep the notables of those okay, but who knows.

Yeah, I'm not super mad about it but I am interested in what going on and causing this problem. I wonder if they felt there were too many deserter, train troops and poacher quests firing off before.

Yeah whatever is done is so bad, you will never get enough relation to get 60 for top units, but I am hoping it is just a bug like the missing notables in towns because if that was intended then someone needs to get their head examined, Most people don't hit 60 relation in a village unless they specifically try to and in my play through of 1.5 I still haven't seen a single grain quest, not game breaking but needs addressing quick becuase this effects so many areas of the game from just questing to recruiting

Just encountered a weird unit banner during a tourney:

That´s true.

But if they had played the "prerelease" (read: did any QA internally) of this beta of the EA, they should have noticed that there is something wrong with "some" stuff. They didn´t.

And I just say, that this beta isn´t worth playing for me because of all those bugs. I wait for 1.6.0 or whatver.

If you like it, cool! Enjoy it!

Maybe we need an alpha of the beta of this EA game? So the next update won´t have those obvious bugs?

Let 1 guy play the alpha of the beta for the EA game for 1-2 hours and he´ll notice stuff like missing notables? Then TW can delay the update and fix obvious stuff like this?

It's working exactly as it should... the beta version is only for people who want to find and report bugs. If you play the first beta release of anything you are 100% guaranteed to experience a ton of issues, that is the entire point of a public beta.

When 1.6.0 beta comes out, don't even bother to install it. Just stay on the stable branch, there are plenty of people who are happy to test the game so you do not have to. I would much rather have them release buggy as hell betas to limit the amount of internal QA time they take. A very large playerbase can find bugs far more quickly than a small internal QA team.

I am a Lead Developer that handles business critical projects where major bugs could cost hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars from service loss. We spend a huge amount of our time on very detailed specifications, writing elaborate tests, unit testing, integration testing, and that greatly limits our speed in implementing new features. If Taleworlds were to take such an approach it would drastically increase their development time.

You can either write nearly perfect code that takes forever to implement or you can go quick and dirty rapid development where new features are thrown in quickly and see what happens. To write an elaborate test infrastructure that finds a particular bug ahead of time will often take 10x the amount of time it would to simply fix the bug later when it's seen live in production.

I'll put it this way, if there were 100,000 people who were willing to test out a beta version of my software for bugs so my team doesn't have to, wouldn't I be somewhat foolish not to take advantage of that? All that work being removed from us would mean that we could add in many more features in the same amount of time.
