Beta Installer Marked as Virus

I just downloaded the installer and when I went to install, AVG claimed that it was a virus (DNSChanger.AA)! Anyone else have this issue?

I assumed it was AVG. I restored the installer from the virus vault and put it in a folder set to be ignored by AVG. Installed okay, but when I went to play AVG intervened again. This time AVG claims it is the Themida virus.

I think it might be time to find another anti-virus.

This is a known-issue with the installer that M&B uses called Thermida, just ignore it and it will be fine.

Im sure its a false positive.

I wasent as lucky as you Integer, the installer wasent in the Virus Vault and even though i had clicked "ignore" it was still deleted. Just uninstalled AVG, worst AV ive ever used

I used AVG for quite a while and it is actually one of the best free Anti-virus programs out there.
Anyways doesn't matter. Try out "avast!"

NOD32 mark it as a virus too...

Reason: a variant of Win32/Packed.Themida application

Thanks for reporting that. It is really depressing how the anti-virus developers are targetting Themida like that.

I had to uninstall AVG to get a very strange permissions error to go away. Oh well.

Howdy all!

I too am experiencing this slight set-back. I've removed AVG and to be safe, re-downloading the beta. I hope that this fixes my woes as it has others.

Cheers, Meg

I've heard too many horror stories about Avast. I'll stick with AVG, but I'll add this to my exceptions/ignore it. I was bombarded with "ZOMG VIRUZES" as soon as I finished downloading the client, but figured it was just AVG being silly.

Glad to see I was right.

[EDIT]

Never mind. Apparently AVG decided to quarantine mb_warband.exe.

ESET marks Themida as a threat as well, but nothing is easier than to switch it off when you're downloading the file and then turn it on afterwards.

Switch to Avast!. It's free, and ever so slightly better than AVG.
I agree, Avast has been my AV of choice for a few years now. The interface is not particularly good, but that's not such a big deal as you only rarely need to see the interface. Otherwise it's top notch.
If you don't like Avast for whatever reason and are having problems with AVG giving false positives as it tends to do, you might try another one called Avira which has a free version available. I've heard good things about it lately, though I haven't actually used it myself.

This happened to my friend, I was on the phone with him, talking with him and waiting for him to finish downloading it, but he said that his anti virus program picked up two Trojans in the setup. When I was downloading it, nothing went wrong. I guess it is just his anti virus program.

Yall don't read do yah? The installer says to disable anti-virus programs and close all other applications before installing. Now we see why... hm?

But as far as good anti-viral programs. I like norton for its intrusion prevention. And I like superantispyware (from superantispyware.com) for virus removal. Superantispyware has a free version that I highly recommend.

Indeed i use Avira.... was a bit skeptical at first but it updates regularly and is pretty solid. I run scans once a week but each week i find nothing..... where-as with Norton or AVG i would run and there would be multiple viruses.... either Avira is good at protecting or it doesnt detect very well.

That's great advice except AVG removes it before you open it. Resident Shield scans it before you have a chance.
Norton is actually worse than some viruses. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, ever.
