I always play cavalry and I always wanted to know this so here it is.
Playing 127 version of the game , updated to 132 today (save game compatible).Mod version was always 1.171 for me.
"->" means upgrades to

- nord valkiriye (?) -> nord seeker of the slain (leveling up medium/hard)
characteristics - heavy shock cavalry , very good offense (big agility and weapon proficiencies) and nice durability

nordslain.jpg

notes: nords also have huscarls that are weaker , probably light cavalry

- swadian man at arm (maybe seargent at start - I will check this out ) (I think) -> swadian royal knight  (leveling up quite hard)
characteristics - heavy tank cavalry , medium offense, high durability
sroyal.jpg

- rodok condottiere - > upgrades to expert ( leveling up realy hard)
characteristics - heavy tank cavalry , quite good offense ( between seeker of the slain and swadian royals) , highest durability so far
rcondot.jpg

- sarading horseman -> saradin mamluke (leveling up realy fast)
characteristics - heavy cavalry (medium offense and durability) at fast rate and low price , best raport (wage and time spent to level up)/durability , those guys are cheap to mantain and easy
to raise so don't complain if a few of them will die every battle, they are easy to replace
mamluke.jpg

- manhunter -> slaver chief (leveling up medium)
characteristics - medium cavalry (quite low hp and proficiences) , cheap to mantain, they yield prisonners (that's the reason I keep them)

Notes: I found nord huscarls and vaegir horsemans realy weak when compared to the rest mentioned here and not worthing the wage.Maybe that those 2
are lacking upgrades from the mod so far.
I also found farmer/woman cavalry line weak when compared to the rest and not worthing the imense wages  (merc and sister ones ).

I might add pics with other troups as I will need them , I only got cavalry so far because they move fast on campain map and I'm not ready to give this advantage up.

Personally, I think that the best cav for cost are the camel riders.  When thinking about cav costs, it's very important to consider the mount, not just the riders.  The low-level camel-cav get camels practically for free :-)

All right, the same thing I said in the other topic: Please put only the pictures inside spoilers and your post will be far easier to read.

I haven't used a lot of cavalry in this mod (besides of the mercs) but I have fought against them quite a bit.

Rhodok Condottieri are the troops I fear the most. Every single one of them has tank-like horse. Even Gauchos have troubles to stop their charge. Other cavalry unit's have lighter horses and so it's a lot easier to kill them. (Seekers of Slain and Swadian Royal Guards also have only armored horses but there really aren't so many of them that they would be a big threat.)
Next thing is that there is just so many of those Condottieri. There isn't lighter version of them and you can just walk to any village and hire dozens of those tanks. Also every Rhodok army has a lot of them because it's the only cavalry unit they can use.

I have never used Slavers because you'll get a lot of prisoners with any troop types.

Sword Sisters are great. Every one has that nearly unkillable Destrier and they usually die only when they stuck somewhere. But yes, they are little costly. Near 200 dinars/week each if I recall correctly.

Get some Rhulgs and they will pound the Condottieri into dust, believe me. I saw that being done on my own troops which had 2xHP than usual.

I saw that , with feldhamir too and even landsknets (some very durable infantery that keeps killing horses :) from behind and manages to even kill some knights - even 2 per battle each). I personaly think that the knights poor AI is to blame - they surround the fellow and keep hitting on his plate for 0 damage and some of them die this way.
When I see that I tell them to hold some remote position and charge those infantry with lance myself.I would have them behave in a more complex way - charge/withdraw/repeat - at least those that have lances.

Actually it's the equipment that makes the difference. The strong infantry, which you mentioned before, have either 2-H weaps or 1-H powerful weaps like the Rhulgs which are able to penetrate even the strongest armor. Cavalry usually use 1-H weaps, and since those are shorter and weaker, the advantage goes to infantry, even the lance is too slow to be used effectively in tight spots. And the Rhulg's armor+shield makes him immune to some weaps and highly resistant to others, that's why they are the best.

As for orders, it's much more effective to order Follow Me and lead the charge yourself, don't let them wander off on their own. I must make a video to show everyone what I'm talking about.

I don't like using infantry against cavalry because then I tend to take unnecessarily casualties... Even with Rhulgs, and I really can't say I use Rhulgs a lot.

My usual tactic for killing enemy cav is that I told my troops to hold, preferably in non- cavalry-friendly area, and then I go play cav-hunting with my Double Dragons. Usually most of them will follow me and so my gunners have time to do their job and infantry can easily stop those not following me.
I don't know how well this tactic will work in larger battles as I usually don't advance very long before making new char, but with that I made a considerable hole to the Death Knight army I fought with my few men. And an epic last stand too.

For anti-cav, Gaucho Pikemen + Landsknechts + Female Irregulars + missile troops of choice is an extremely strong combination, with lots of two-hand horse-killers, deadly ranged weapons vs. horses, and nice staying power in a phalanx block.

Luckily the AI never gets that combo (and don't give me that evil idea, or I'll do that to people on Mommy sometime, heh).
