Best units of each faction

I have tended towards mixing units from each faction for my standing army so that I may have the best of each I normally mix:

Nord Huscarls for infantry (Great for sieges and against cavalry *If the cavalry don't just chase me around running me over lol)

Swadian Knights (Recently replaced by the ridiculously easy to obtain marmlukes)

Vaegir Marksmen (For archers I normally either use them or Khergit veteran horse archers)

It seems my mix works generally well what do your troop mixes look like? any thing wrong with mine?

nothing wrong. but if u want some spearmen with your infantry to help them resist calvary charge den get some rhodok spearmen. also, rhodok sharpshooters are pretty fine too as archers.

I like to mix some Rhodok Spearmen into my Sharpshooters/Marksmen to make their line more durable. Then put Huscarls in front of that, hold their fire when enemy is far, release when enemy closes down and charge with heavy cavalry of any kind, best Mamelukes or Swadians from a flank. Never fails.

Well I remember back in M&B's early versions the rhodoks were just pathetic has that changed lol because I don't normally play as them or recruit from their towns.

In general playing Sarranid or Swadian for cavalry and then taking yourself a Rhodok city to recruit xbows from villages for garrisons is an awesome strategy. Then it's all about defending the right castle against enemy attack, Almerra for example.

Rhodoks are very hard in castle sieges, compared to other factions. I swear, on my 10-hero army, the Rhodoks hurt a lot with their crossbows and Sharpshooters. That said, I find that they're not great in plains type environments and would much rather have horsemen in those situations.

Yes, rhodoks in sieges are pain in the ass especialy when I'm using only swadian units.

my army right now is comprised of Swadian Knights, Nord Vets (training to level up though), Rhodok Sargents and i just got some of the Sarranids. although in my castle it's mostly built up with Sharpshooters (both swadian and rhodok) Nord Husc, a large number of swadian infaltry (I was at war with pretty much every other person on the map do had to recruit swadians) and Sarranid guards i think they are.

People who say Rhodoks are trash are playing on easy. I watched cavalry charges crumble in front of a line of Rhodok crossbowmen...

Sarranid archers are fun too by the way, don't overlook them. They seem to have very good rate of fire with their short bows meaning instead of being snipers like Vaegirs or Rhodoks, they are basically a machine gun kind of archers. Just tell them to hold fire long enough and you'll see what happens when enemy line gets close enough.

Exactly. Many times i saw half of my knights being killed or knocked out by crossbowmen before they get to enemy while charging.

I am actually playing a character right now that uses nothing but Rhodok crossbowmen.  I am doing very well, even with no infantry!

Frankly, I think high-tier Rhodok crossbowmen should be considered "Medium Infantry" rather than "Archers."

In this perspective the Rhodoks undoubtably have the most balanced and well organized "infantry." They might not be as powerful as the Nords in terms of ferocity or shock value, but still they can fill a lot of role.

I usually like to have a good mix of whatever faction I'm a vassal of.  However, I recently just started my own kingdom for the first time, and I've subconsciously ended up with an army of pure Knights (Vaegir, Swadian and Mamlukes).  I was a Vaegir vassal so when I went off on my own I needed some different troops ASAP.  I rolled through Swadian and Sarranid territory on a large scale recruiting drive (thank god for the trainer skill) and now have about 60 of each type of knight, and about 50 Khergit lancers for when I get in a pinch.  All my foot troops are holding down the fort in my capital of Narra (a **** load of Vaegir Guards, Marksmen, Veteran Horse Archers and whatever kind of Knight I'm not using in the field for moral purposes.  I just really have no choice because I have to be able to move fast and fight large numbers (I'm talking marshal armies) of enemies with just my 130 man army.  All my companion lords only have armies of 40-50...sure hope that changes soon.  Maybe I'll have to raise armies for each of them.

I still haven't found anything I'd rather have than a bunch of knights in siege battles though.  Knights are just way OP.  I find they even do better than Huscarls.

Defensive sieges any heavy infantry or even heavy cav on foot+ rhodok sharpshooters are win.  Offensive sieges a few sharpshooters that I put on hold near bot of ramp to fire at enemy archers while mix of huscarls/heavy cav go up ladder/tower.
Open field its obviously heavy cav unless your fighting in bad terrain.  TBH youll never fight an army with enough high tier archers to kill/wound more than 2-3 heavy cav before they hit the line.  They might bring down some additional horses but it wont matter because as seen as the heavy cav are in the line they light up kills.  Obviously if your the player and your using better tactics you might see enemy cav as semi-useless because of smarter tactics but commanding a large force of heavy cav with decent flanking and terrain choice its easy.

I have actually started liking huscarls more on my 2nd campaign where I have settings on easy and im going for world domination but I think its because most of my fights are at castle/city where huscarls are the best offensive unit.
