Best strategy against (all mounted) Khergit armies?

I have

1) Swadian cavalry, Tier 5 & 6 (30 percent)
2) Vaegir archers, T5+6 (25 percent)
3) Rhodok crossbowmen, T5+6 (25 percent)
4) Nord infantry, T5+6 (20 percent)

and usually lose 0-5 soldiers in battles against size comparable armies.

Only when I fight against Khergit, my soldiers drop like flies. 10-30 dead most of the time which sucks, of course.

My general strategy is rather defensive. I hold position, inf+cav in front, archers behind, so two broad lines...

I (a mounted-only Khergit warlord) have no respect for Nords not wearing banded armor or better, only fear Rhodok xbows wielded by men in black and white armor, and make a game out of shooting all enemy cavalry and archers (I'm the anti-archer archer for my party). Only, lessee here... about 30% of your army is of concern to me. Let me guess, you lose a lot of cavalry? When I charge (as I always do unless the terrain makes it advantageous/less ridiculous to stay) the enemy cavalry comes out and swirls around like they are TRYING to get my army's attention and they get it, all of it, and get overwhelmed. Then, without anything to keep up with my horsemen we swirl around and into the foot soldiers of the enemy and rip them to shreds.

The highest losses I take are against bunches of advanced cavalry, specifically heavily armored horse archers. Spearmen should be more effective but when we hit them, we hit them en masse and they take out some horses then get trampled and chopped up. The worst thing to face me with would be melee-only infantry. Luckily your Nords have stuff to throw and therefore have a closer range so can concentrate on fewer targets instead of shooting all over the place so at least you have that. The way to stop a monster like me would be an unbalnaced army: tons of spearmen forming a long wall with some infantry behind them, archers behind that, and cavalry ready to plug holes. Order them to brace polearms and you concentrate on the most dangerous enemies' horses.

Alternatively, you can assign a bunch of spearmen and a bunch of xbows/archers to the same group, tell them to form a square, then stand closer a bunch of times and advance across the field. The will be a prickly ball of hatred that cannot be broken and kills from afar. They will, however, be vulnerable to arrow fire so I suggest you and some elite cav concentrate on ending any enemy archers. Good luck, m'lady.

I took on an Army of 150-160 Mounted Khergit with only 60 men using this strategy. And only lost 7 men.

What you're going to need:
Calvary (At least 25%)
Infantry (30-40% works best)
Archers (Around 30%)
You can do whatever you want with the rest of your army.

But anyways.

Fighting mounted Units with Infantry is hard on flat ground, if you're going to attack/(be)attacked then try to get onto a hilly surface. The deeper the slope the better.

Step 1:
Get all of your army positioned (Hold here) on the slope, facing the enemy.

Step 2: Wait until the enemy army gets 40-50 meters away from you.

Step 3: Set Calvary to Charge, if you can fight on a mount then go with them.

Step 4: After you have done reasonable damage to the army, or if you think you're getting hurt, set the Calvary to Follow me.

Step 5: Slowly bait the rest of the enemy army to the slope.

Step 6: Once within reasonable distance of your infantry set Infantry and Calvary to charge.

Step 7: Provide support.

The Archers can basically do whatever. If you're on a mount make sure you try to get the enemy archers as those can still be annoying.

Tactics are rather simple: place your infantry on on the hill. Tell them to stand closer (F2-F4 I guess). Look how enemy is slaughtered.

Thank you all.

In hill regions I have lesser problems with them. They are only an issue in flat regions like deserts.

I'm gonna try to focus more on infantry with shields. Without they would obviously get slaughtered faster due to the hordes of horse archers.

And...
