im trying to find out what is the best one handed sword i think it might be arming sword balanced or whatever tell me if i am wrong or right thank you

It depends partially on fighting style. You might work best with the balanced arming sword. I tend to use lots of drive-bys, so a watered-steel nomad sabre is best for me.

Edit: I just checked the stats. It looks like the best one-handed weapons are the ws sabre, balanced arming sword, and (if you like power) balanced falchion.

I think balanced broadsword has highest damage for a sword. It also has good reach.

For speed, chose either water-steel nomad sabre or scimitar.

k thanks i tend to stay on my horse so ill start looking for a sabre and scimitar thanks for help i wasn't quit sure

Yeah, when I first started the game, I was all about looking at the weapons stats and trying to see if I was playing most effectively and getting the competitive edge.

Now, what does it matter to me if one weapon has a slightly higher speed rating or delivers 2 extra damage points (or 10 points, for that matter)? Not much really, I'll just hit 'im again.

Until or unless there's a distinctive feel that separates a scimitar from a Nordic sword, I will just use whatever I'm in the mood to use.

If the scimitar had a distinctive "whoooosh" sound, or the war hammer had a heavy sounding "thuuuuuuuddddddddd" knocking the enemy over in a different way than any other weapon, it matters little to me how my opponent buys it.

If using the lance sent my target flying in the air after a satisfying "Blammmmmm!" that rocked me and my horse a bit (say by shaking our camera view), then I'd use it more often.

Right now, kill a guy with a sword, lance, arrow, hammer: it's all the same. Guys falls over.

Anyway, my point is the best weapon is the weapon I feel like using. Going by stats or "damage delivered" isn't wrong, just kind of trivial most of the time. We need better sound effects and combat graphics.

I find a watered steel nomad sabre to be the optimal combination of speed, length, and hitting power for me. If done right it can be used for a double-whammy on horseback -- few other weapons can make that claim.

For single-handed bludgeoning I tend to prefer the heavy spiked mace, as it's a mite longer than the hammers; that means one can be a little less precise, which is important when the framerate starts dropping

I personally chose my scimitar because it fitted the impresion i wanted my character to convey. Call me shallow but image is everything!

Once you've gotten past the ultimate badass balanced sword of war reinforced black everything super awesome kill everything no damage received ultra phase that seems so compelling at first, I found that it's actually a lot more fun to create a certain type of character and equip him based on who he is rather than based on what's the best. If you're good enough then your actual skill will more than make up for the loss in equipment, and it gives a lot more personality to the game.

Im level 59, most things die in one hit with any weapon. I do love the look of the heavy battle axe though. And i always have my war bow there to take them down faster if needs be. I find the only advantage from one weapon to the next at my level is reach. speeds not too important. level 5 athletics sees too that. damage is upped enough by my proficiencies and my strength based skills do the rest.. Go for reach. A heavy Baradich or something.

How are so many people above 50? Did everyone install the little hack I posted *cough* plagerized *cough*, or is this game much more adictive for you than I realize?

I guess 28 rating is max for all single-hand, non-polearm weapon. Correct me if I am wrong.

So, I am always taking the reach as second major factor, it is more cruical when your pc is mounted. Speed comes last as it is rare you can swing twice towards same target in a single pass.

I guess there is a mod/cheat out there allowing your pc to go beyond level 50~~~

With scimitars and nomad sabres, you can actually get two hits on a target from horseback in 1 pass.

It takes very good timing though.

Once you get a feel for the right speed, you can go just fast enough to avoid blows and knock down enemies, and just slow enough to swing once against a raised shield and then immediately after when the foe is preparing to strike back.
