Being awarded land as a female

So in my latest game I decided to give a female character a try. After adventuring on my own for a while I joined up with the Nords. Now I know I don't get a village when I join as a woman, but one of the text options with the king when I signed up mentioned that I would get one if I captured it myself. So I went out and captured a castle. Lo and behold, the king awarded it to himself saying I "owned too much land already"... I don't own anything.
My renown is around 500, my RtR is around 20, my rep with the king is like 15, most lords of my faction are in the 3 to 8 range, and I think I'm the only vassal who doesn't own property. Why didn't I get the castle I captured (by myself)? Is it because I'm a woman or just a fluke with the numbers?

Also, does anyone know what values to change in the config files to weight land distributions more heavily towards who captured/participated in the capture of the castle/town? This was an annoyance in my old games too; the king and lords are content to sit on their butts and do nothing forever, while I'm the only one defending/attacking new lands; they're getting all the reward from my cash and effort I'm throwing at my troops. This is what drives me to form my own faction, but I've already tried that once in this game (before I joined the Nords) and I didn't have a big enough base to survive very long yet.

Are you playing native? If yes, then download dip mod because it will fix many native bugs(No matter what, if you have no fiefs and at least 250-300 renown while taking castle yourself you should be awarded fief).

As Tripida pointed out, with that kind of renown you should definitely get a village fief upon joining a faction in Diplomacy, even as a female character.

When I was still playing Native, I got around the whole issue by taking a castle and then joining a faction.  Property you join with remains yours.
