Being a marshall is hard

So king Graveth finally made me the mashall of the realm. I gathered about 12 fellow Rhodok lords with me and we all marched towards Shariz to take it back from the Kherghits. After a fight i finally defeated the defenders and Shariz was now Rhodok territory, but theres something fishy... I needed to fill the garrison alone!?? I thought each of my fellow lords will put some men in like they do when theres another marshall around. That is just unfair.
Now every time i conquer something they get it back within days. Or i put some men inside and wait a month for another campaign.

If you conquer something, it will be empty until given to someone. Then they put troops into it.
If the AI conquer something it will auto have troops in it.

There goes Shariz...
Now the king has to give away 4 more fiefs before he grants the castle. Damn thats annoying but thanks for the fast reply.

It is hard, but worth it to be able to call other armies together and to control your allied troops on the battlefield.

As far as garrisoning a captured town/castle, you can fill up your stack with freed prisoners that you don't want yourself and drop them into the garrison.  Also visit local villages and recruit a bunch of cheap troops to stuff in there.  This is a good argument for not raiding villages at all, since the number and quality of troops will depend on your relationship with the village -- if it's good enough you can even recruit in villages of factions you are at war with.  Then try to be within riding range so that you can raise the siege if one occurs.

Another idea is to tell one or two of the lords that you have a task for them " The enemy is coming in force flee in direction of [insert newly taken castle/town]" they will go and garrison it. It will weaken your attacking force but at least you wont have to garrison it yourself while campaigning (I usually keep my larger armies with me and throw the smaller groups/heavily casualties in the garrison).

Yeah it have troops in it because the marshal hired some rescued prisoners and put some of his troops in it =) Remember that AI marshal only go after 1 objective at a time where you can go on a spree and get 5-10 fief at a time.

So the trick is obviously to move around with about 60-70% of your maximum party number in elite troops. Keep 20% for recruits in the field and train them a bit for the next fief you will capture. Keep the rest open for you to hire rescued prisoners to pad the number up of the fief you just conquered.

Hope this helps

- Persnychite - Have to say your pic signature almost made my jaw fall off laughing.

If you send friendly lords to defend a castle or town be sure to send good numbers or the friendlies will just approach and retreat ad nausium because they fear the greater numbers of the enemy - but this is a very good point
