Beginners Server

Until we get a dedicated server for beginners up, i've decided to host one from my computer. (Don't worry, i've hosted warband servers from my computer before, the ping is similar to the dedicated servers)

And so, i give you "Beginners_Server"
Whether your new to multiplayer or just wanna get away from all those "pros"(spammers) in the battle hosts, come and enjoy.

At the moment the gamemode is team deathmatch.

Using autoblock and medium combat speed. I haven't decided what i should use for friendly fire yet, so suggestions are welcome, at the moment we're using 0% damage to self and 50% damage to friend.

Im also looking for admins so you can PM me if your interested in that.

Comments, questions, discussions, unban requests, etc. can be posted below or PM'd to me, whatever floats your boat. I'd hope you post on here though, as that keeps the topic on the front page .

Are you always going to have admins in the server? because if not it will become infested with trolls preying on the poor noobs.

Well, the can lear to use 1h+shield, to learn weapon lengts and speed ratings:grin: And some chambers lol

if u have ff on then u need some dmg to self otherwise griefers will run amock team killing everyone

maybe you could rotate the server with TDM Siege and DM? Those modes are what I think most new players would want to do.

Strange, I thought new players were those more likely to spam than anyone else

Nevermind, we probably need a place for new players to endlessly bounce weapons off each other...
Also, a rotation of some of the game modes is a good idea, so they pick up useful hints for each gamemode.
You should probably ask some players to act as instructors as well, to pick up on advanced techniques and the like.

As long as its moderated reasonably well, It should be handy.

I don't think people will learn from auto block.

pretty much this.

Manual block may be jarring at first, but its the only way to get better.

As for FF, I would recommend 1% damage to self so people are aware they hit someone, but aren't punished too heavily for it.

You can switch to use manual block yourself when you're on an autoblock server. You just have to go into redefine keys and switch it. That way, if beginners think they are ready, they can switch it and still play against beginners. Actually, you may want to put info that into the server rules. Anyway I may hop on every now and then to puff up my ego help out some of the newbies.

Just gather a bunch of people you know to jump on and play for a while to attract other players, then help them out.

This reminds me, where will it be based? You'll probably get more players if its an EU server.

I'll be more than happy to jump in from time to time and help out newbies if they need it,  im not sure if i will be active enough to be an admin though.

also I agree with Seawied86, setting FF to 1% (or another suitably low number, perhaps 5-10) would work,  not too punishing but it at least lets the player know they are hitting a teammate, and that it should be avoided,  manual block should probably be on-  it can be removed if you want anyway.

on the greet screen, perhaps post some very basic tips on learning-  such as  "if you are feeling comfortable with the game, why not try manual block?"

Should definitely set it to manual block.

why so?  there are countless manual servers, and not a single auto.
auto is easier and allows newbies to play without hassle, if they intend to move onto harder training they can remove autoblock (and a server message would make it clear that autoblock is a required skill of normal servers)

I would really like to be an admin. I like helping new people. I think manual block needs to be on, or else the next generation M&B player would be spammers

This generation are spammers.
I'll be pushing toward the sever message tips rather than manuel block.

And apsod, I'll pm you in the morning, I'm too tired right now

Ok. I agree that this generation M&B players are spammers(atleast alot) but that is just good, because spammers are really easy to defeat

So pros are all spammers. It is funny for you to say that when players like Thorn, Reapy and neih who gets 100-6 score never spams.
