So, most of us have figured out by now that one quick and easy route to becoming "king" is simply to take land either by yourself, or take land as part of a kingdom and rebel if the king doesn't grant you land.

Now I was under the impression that you could become the king of a SPECIFIC faction, ie the Swadians, or Vaegirs, for example. However if I am not mistaken the only thing that I seem to be able to do is create my own faction and try to convince other nobles to join me.

However, I have noticed that there SEEM to be a few other options for how to begin the process of becoming a king, however I they don't seem to do anything.  First of all, you can tell your companions that you wish to become king, but after they go off for twenty days or so, they come back, telling you that they have "spread the word", but nothing changes.  Also, if you become friendly enough with a Lord and he expresses dislike of his current liege, you can say "Well, I have something to tell you..." Insinuating that you wish to become the new king, however any time I ask this question my character simply says "Uhh, nevermind".

So, are these "dead end" features that are going to be patched in, or am I doing something wrong and they are actually working as intended?

Also, what is "Right to Rule"? and how do I gain it? Is a Right to Rule of "10" for example, very high or is it low?

Your Right to Rule is what makes you a legitimate king. If you have a low Right to Rule, then other kings will target you, as if anyone can become a king, it makes them question their own Right to Rule. This is said in game when you first become a king, and to increase your Right to Rule, you have to marry someone related to a lord, be friendly with kings, etc.

Well, I noticed that I could grant my companions vassalship by giving them fiefs, which is really helpful at the start, saved the kingdom of Midland from inevitable destruction, and yeah, I just became a king by getting as many towns/Villages/Castles as I could when I was a vassal, and when I was ready, just renounced my oath as soon as the king didn't give me a castle I wanted. I guess that's the best way Ive found so far, because it let me kept all my castles/Towns/Villages,.

Telling Companions that you want to be king and sending them off to tell others will raise your Right to rule. Higher right to rule will make it easier to convince lords to join you. I pretty much have max right to rule and convinced half of the lords on the world map to join me and all of the other kings are too intimidated by me to war me.

I started by (independently after I renounced my oaths) raiding a group of villagers and then using that as the deceleration of war immediately sieged a castle. this ended up being very difficult as i had one castle and had a whole kingdom to war with (plus the ai waits a long time before excepting truce) but it worked and was a pretty straightforward path

Many of us seems to be somewhat confused with the new player's kingdom system and a sticky with all informations or an in-game encyclopedia entry would be probably useful.

As for me, I was looking everywhere for the right to rule meter until I figured you had to send companion in mission to activate it. Furthermore I was thinking that sending companion in mission was the "send a letter as a monarch to another" mission until I discovered the reputation missions in the companion's dialog options (I don't spend a lot of time on gaming).
And finally, I married before starting the right-to-rule-meter and it seems that it wasn't taken in consideration. I don't want to restart a campaign to verify, but i guess that marrying brings right to rule points only when you've activated the right to rule system.

I spent a lot of time feeling my way in my research, maybe this could be avoided to other players by a proper FAQ.

Well, i'm far to be ready to make my own kingdom on my current game, but what i noticed, is that lords and kings doesnt give you anymore quests when you give your oath to a king. In a "roleplay" purpose, i can understand their anwser wich is approximately "I prefer to let my own men do that little task instead of giving it to a peer", but i made the mistake to give my oath way to earlier in the game (i'm currently a Nord lord) because that kingdom made peace with Vaegirs early on and i didnt wanted to protect my village early on from roaming lord AI parties, focusing on trade and politics instead. I also tought it would help to improve my relation with the father of a lady (from a family who dont like the current king very much), but it has become even harder to become friend with the father: only way to improve relation with him is to support him for who should be awarded a castle, or fighting on his side when HE (not me) starts the battle. Wich, in both cases, doesnt happen often. :/

on another not a great way to easily gain relations is to go to war with a faction and constantly release the captured nobles at the end of the a recent war with the rhodoks I had 4 rhodok nobles in 30+ relatsions and the majority of the rest reasonably high, I gained honor and it made it very easy to get them to my side
