Becoming an Assassin

I have high hopes that the player will be able to become a criminal/raider/brigand of his own at one point in this game, but I just came up with an idea that has some new gameplay merit, I think.

What if the player could become a hired blade?  You take on contract killings.  Basically, you go on quests to sneak up on people in different (featuring different scenarios) and face them in 1 v 1 battle.  In many assassination quests, you will actually end up facing much more than just one opponent, however.  Some of these can be related to the different factions; ie. you might have to infiltrate a town at night and assassinate the ruling lord inside his keep.  To make this more interesting, the game could implement a line of sight code, where enemies do not respond to the player until he is actually sighted once.  Don't know how hard that would be, but it'd not even necessary actually.

A few things.  Either the game can simply tell you that you await trial by death sentence but you escape, or the game actually puts you in jail and let's you escape.  You can find all manner of things to use as weapons on your way back out.

Yeah, I like this. I mentioned this sort of thing in my town events threas, that maybe you could assassinate someone during a festival.
It wouldn't have to be like Hitman, changing uniforms and killing terriers with poisned sausages, but more like the arena.
So you only have one enemy, or could be like the storymod siege where you fight your way through a castle.

Many people think of assassinations as something out of the games Thief or Hitman, but in actual fact many were straight-up fights.  For instance, Caligula was murdered by a detachment of his praetorian guard.  Since he certainly had household guards who were not praetorians (the conflict between the praetorians and emperor was well-known to Caligula, since he may have rose to power by bribing the praetor to kill Tiberius) it seems probable that there was a fight within the palace itself.

If such a model is used for assassination missions, the player should not be able to wear armor heavier than a gambeson and should carry no shield, no ranged weapon, and so forth.

Like what..tables and candle sticks?!

Nah, that wouldn't be M&B anymore.

Just remember, this game has it's own idea.  We don't want to implement things from other games.

I'm going to assume by this you mean, "Mount and Blade has its own theme."  The problem with your assertion, however, is that it prevents games from ever stretching even a tad from the course of their theme.  I admonish your desire to keep the game as pure and true to theme as possible, but I don't think the occasional prison escape quest would in any way detract from M&B's theme.  As soon as you're out of prison, you're back in the saddle.  And no, the things you pick up to fight with don't have to be candle stands, chairs, or curtain rods.   They can be rusty knifes, spades, shovels or chipped swords found in crates or barrels.

Well, it looks like M&B is adding dungeons in the future, so I would suspect that this is not too far from where it is going....

Dungeons as in dungeons with dragons in them or dungeons as in places to hold prisoners?

Dungeons as in lots of high "D" German women wth hair as black as the leather they wear.  Hm... I think I'm beginning to see the Fennoscandian influences in this game.

Dude I like the assasin idea, rock on, another thing that would be cool is that you build up a reputation and if you become famous enough and say, your an enemy of the vaegirs they might send the occasional assasin your way, and if people don't like the idea of becoming an assasin in M&B then they just should not become one, simple as that

I like that idea of you being attacked by an assassin  It could be developed into a sword fight inside the tavern, very cool, and not hard at all. Or as a traitor in your group, if he decides to attack you, if you morale or leadership is not very high you could face a mutiny were you would have to fight a number of your own troops calculated on Charisma and Morale. I am very intrigued
