Battles are still big blobs clashing each other awkwardly

It seems like the AI has not been really improved on this aspect. In this video for example :

You can see that each army form big blobs of soldiers instead of creating space between them. It leads the soldiers to act very unnaturally, since only the front line is fighting, blocking the others that are behind, and the soldiers in the back are just standing still (since they can't reach the enemy) instead of moving and circumvent the soldiers despite them having to make only five steps to the left or to the right. It's not really "epic".

I cant be a 100% sure, but im pretty sure that video is made using the advanced battle mod, which seems to have a way more simple battle AI than i have even seen from the Commander multiplayer beta videos.

If i recall correctly the ACB i will just call it does not use the proper decision making-AI in it. When i use ster's custom battle the AI behaves correctly and does not blob up as seen in the video.

When both sides use AI, the battlefield looks more like this:

Also lacks commander AI and sub-commander AI which are supposed to be a thing.

As others said, that isn't the proper AI, if you want to see how battles will actually work watch Taleworlds official videos.

I don't know what you are interested in, whether it's historical realism or gameplay. Personally I want to see far more of realism. In a battle, we assume (we haven't seen medieval warfare other than in paintings) you totally want to be in a blob.

The major issues (that I can think of off the top of my head) for realism that are not addressed in the gameplay are these:
Lines and shieldwalls don't flank each other nor have outlier individuals acting independently of the "blob". But you definitely want a blob, perhaps with skirmishers at the edges.

The distance and weightage of a weapon needs to be represented. If you are shoulder to shoulder with anyone then you cannot use your full range of techniques, you cannot swing a sword without taking the eye out of the guy behind you. Spears were everything. You don't move your weapon from the fending off position unless you absolutely have to, ranked combat would have very much been about poking rather than swinging **** about. Second to those defensive ranks would be smaller faster units trying to pierce the defensive rank with speed and or force.

Armour works. You can't make a guy in chainmail and coif drop with a single blow.

If you get anywhere near your opponent you want to drop your ridiculous long heavy weapon and grapple or knife them.

You cannot carry a spear or bow on your back or over your shoulder. You hold it or you don't.

Blobs are the very least of the realism issues.

Oh thanks, I'm reassured !

The main point of this, I'd have thought, is how this all affects the tactical side of the battle. You want to be able to arrange your men in formations, and have them engage the enemy when and in a way that you choose. You want to have particular groups of soldiers for particular purposes in attack and defence and be able to use them in an organised, strategic way.

If the game allowd you to do this, then it works. If it doesn't, then it needs tweaking. It doesn't really matter what real-world medieval armies did: it's a gameplay issue, about giving the player a variety of viable tactical options.

We should stop basing opinions of gameplay on "mods" in a beta, lets wait until we can actually play and SP is released, this modded version of custom battles is not in any way an indication of how SP might work

+1 on this^

Singleplayer is 100% going to have a different AI behavior than shown in the video, because like the others already said, it shows a modified mod for a beta of game to be released!

TW show us what they want us to see. EA will show the truth.

I mean there's literally gamescom footage of battles looking the exact same when being played by random people, It's not a conspiracy.
