So...it's a black German, wearing a cape? Or a trench coat somehow attached to his neck without choking him in a cape-like fashion? And he is black? A black German in the early twentieth century?

He may not be black nor german. Probably because of the light?

I just saw the trailer, the game looks pretty exciting- I didn't like the use of the modern sound track though and the modern aesthetic in terms of voices and sound effects. Hopefully that will be less evident in the actual game. One thing I found really interesting was Arabian cavalry in the trailer; I wonder if that will actually feature in the game and if they will be playable- they have swords!

The only german thing in that picture is the gun as far as I can tell.
And about him being a black guy:
Altogether about 440,000 indigenous soldiers, alongside 140,000 settlers of European descent and 268,000 indigenous war workers were shipped over from Africa to Europe between 1914 and 1918. This article will first outline the numbers and origins of African soldiers fighting in the armies of different European powers as well as the ways they were deployed.

Anyways, Im looking forward to the autism over "this canteen wasnt issued until 1917!!!! This game will suck!" inevitably incoming.

And WW1 was the first war, obviously, that's why it has a One in the title. They even nicknamed it "The War to Start all Wars".

The first Battlefield game was 1942, so technically it checks out.
Well, if they wanted to call it Battlefield 1914 (or 1915, 1916, 1917, or 191:cool:, that'd be fine, but "Battlefield 1"?

To be honest, I think they chose Battlefield 1, because Xbox One has exclusive rights to it. "Access early with EA Access on Xbox One"... Which is lame I might add.

I think the same way but as a reason this is not enough. Battlefield 1 looks creepy but sounds quite tough. Battlefield One, I mean.

Naming out of sequential order is all the rage nowadays.
Doesn't make the trend any less stupid, though.

EDIT: To expand: There are instances where 'going back to the beginning' in naming order might be a good idea, such as with a reboot or a revival of a series or franchise that's been dormant for a while. (It signals a fresh start, if you will.) This, AFAIK, however, is neither: the Battlefield series hasn't been dormant, and this isn't a reboot: this is a continuation of a series which has gone on for a while and will likely go on for some years to come. Calling this "Battlefield 1," then, just defies logic.

And yes, I realize I probably just went full Ringwraith there.

Dont you see? Its clearly meant to be read like Battlefield Won. As in a battlefield claimed by victory!

So helpful! I can't believe they managed to wait 14 years to start it though, that must've been hell! I would've started year 1902 lol!

Another thing I can say is I bet they couldn't name it 1914, 1915... because it'd take more than 1 year, maybe more than all of the WW1 and beyond. Also naming a Battlefield game with years is not that popular anymore.

Ah also it's cheaper on Kinguin: http://www.kinguin.net/category/17663/battlefield-5-origin-cd-key/
