Battle Videos

Hey folks...

I was thinking of recording some of my battles, just for the hell of it, to share 'em around, and watch others'....

The problem is: I don't know how. I've heard of FRAPS, but unless ya pay for it, you're limited to 30 seconds. Any free programs available?

Mr. Helpful, please:

As Marsec quoted.

Pipuli, you're now officially warned. Any more posts with you promoting piracy will result in a permanent ban.

so, back to the original question:

Are there any free methods to record video?

I used Google and Wikipedia to find some free video recorders.

This is totally free and all what you need to do, is download it (not sure, if it works, haven't tested yet).

Here you can find Bulent's Screen Recorder 3 + BSR Movie Lab's video recorder. Link: http://www.thesilver.net/

Here is hundreds more free video recorders: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Screen_Capture_Tools/

Also, you should try to google Camtasia studio 3.

I wouldn't suggest fraps unless you have a really good system, the frame rate takes a serious drop when using it. I have my battle size set to 140 which plays very nice unless all the units get into a tight group, then it lags a bit. Trying to record me VS 139 didn't go too well, 10-14 frames a second is playable but I ended up getting my butt kicked because of how slow it was going.

Wow, 140? I would be interested in seeing your system specs if you don't mind posting them. Because I think I got a pretty decent system myself and I'm using a battlesize of 80 atm, which barely works since I'm getting an FPS of about 30.

Here's my system:
AMD64 3500+
1GB RAM
GeForce 7800GS

AMD 3200
1GB RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro

Only graphics turned off is 3d grass, I have no clue what my frame rate is but its not laggy unless you look at a large group as in when they all cluster.

Thanks, well that's weird... I'll try turning off 3d grass then, but I doubt it could make such a hige difference...

I find it ironic that most of you would be jumping down my throat if I were to pirate M&B, but not Fraps.
Not really, Marsec and jeansberg posted opposition to pirating Frapps also.

amb-you call 30 fps unplayable?  wow, below 20 is where I start to feel the lag.  At or above 20 is fine.  3d grass also makes a huge difference, about 20-30 fps, in my experience.

Anthro horse- if you want to see the fps counter, there is one available already in the game.  Just look at the configuration button during the first splash screen.

No it's not exactly unplayable, but my performance definitly suffers when the FPS drops below 40. My performance as in my ability to ride and fight in the game that is, because at below 40, there's a delay in the controls, which even if you don't actually notice it, still has severe consequences for how well you perform.

If you don't know what I mean, then try turning everything down until you have at least a steady 40 FPS, or more, and then fight a battle, you'd be suprised over how much better you perform.
