Battle Sizer?

I had the battle sizer at 200. This worked fine in Native and a few other mods. It would occasionally crash due to a vertex error, but it was very rare (1 in 25 fights?).

I played PoP for a few days with just me + heroes (11 sized group), so I didn't really notice any battle size issues... but as soon as I decide to build up my army and fight some larger battles (helping other lords etc.), the game would crash maybe every other fight. Is there something wrong with PoP and large battles?

Ayy - Crashes! Ugly stuff.

It's difficult to understand that a working application simply works (no casual, no random or frequent crashes). Vertex Errors and CTD's have often to do with settings and maintenance of the used machine (memory, cards etc etc). Did you play around a bit to see whether it worked with battlesize at 50, 100, 120 and so on? How are your in-game settings?

Sorry for not being of more help and assistance.

Mmh, maybe you should adress the issue in the tech thread?

Check out this thread.

It handles the Vertex Buffer error. Read it carefully, you may get a clue how to handle your problem. Furthermore, you want to check out the various other sections like the Apothecary, the Apprentice Guild and the Zendar Town Square and do some searchers there to get other helpful answers.

As ermine already said, it depends much on your graphic card and your setting. PoP has so many new items and eyecandy all over compared to native that in a huge battle your graphics card really get it - and if it´s overstrained it goes hang herself on some nail and leaves for a holiday.

Sidenote:
The thread popped up typing "Vertex Buffer" into the mystic field right top corner. It´s the second 100% success search I did.

the link is not working, noosers  at least not for me

anyway, while playing PoP i also used a battlesizer at 200 approx.  and my game only crashed a few times - when joining a grand battle between Noldor and Jatu.
must be an entirely  pc-resourses related issue

There you go. You could have typed "vertex buffer" and searched yourself though, rather than complaining, eh?

it was a mere notice, but not a complaint, noosers
i'm currently seriously engaged in Dragon Age: Origins and i guess, my next PoP game will have to wait till 3.0 or even 3.1+ comes out.

Hmm... it looks like I'll have to run in Dx7 mode according to that thread which I'm not thrilled with. What are the major differences between Dx9 and Dx7 in terms of image quality? Also, will the HDR mod work in Dx7?

For now though, I got it to work fine by reducing the number of corpses and ragdolls even further. I remember setting them to 20 and 5 respectively back when I had crashing issues in Native with large battle sizes. I've further reduced them to 10 and 3 and no crashes since.

As for my computer... I have a Core i7 860, 4 GB DDR3 1600, and a Radeon HD 5870, so I hope I'm not lacking computer resources

EDIT:
Ok so I read page 2 of that thread. It's somewhat convoluted, but the general gist was to modify 2 files. I did this and no crashes (so far...) even with unlimited corpses and ragdolls! What's more fantastic is that I'm still able to maintin 60-80 fps with 200 battle size, max settings, HDR mod, and unilimited corpses  (maybe it's time to up the battle size?).  X Now I just need Warband to run this in eyefinity...

You mean modifying RGL.cfg and game_variables.txt? Doesnt seem to work for me, I still get vertex buffer crashes on big sieges (a while after the battle starts). Maybe I should limit the amount of corpses?

For huge sieges, definetly. 40´s still a high enough pile on the top or the low end of the ladder to satisfy for gore craving eye.

Unfortunately  I spoke too soon. Just did a 1000 v 400 and it crashed after a few reinforcement waves. It's no longer a vertex buffer crash though... the game just straight up exits and windows gives a generic "Mount and Blade stopped working, looking for solutions" message.

Yet if I did have a F 15 under me bum I wouldn't try to fly to the moon

Are you sure though the HDR mod runs brotherly with PoP?

I've been getting this also, and I'm not using any Battlesizer mod, I've just got it set to 100 from 60.

In my game, I set mine at 199.  I have a new and fast machine, but I still have trouble with forest battle scene.    It gets very choppy.  I basically can't do anything, but the computer can still fight it out.

I try to avoid fighting in forest.

check the vertex buffer thread to check a few settings in order to increase your fps and avoid the laggy forest/mountain thingy.

I have to keep Battle sizer at under 200, despite having a new, fairly fast machine with a very good video card.  199 seems to be OK, but 200+ is not.  Trees seem to slow things down for everyone.

I have had issues before on my laptop which is pretty decent. I have had alot of success since I limited battlesizer to 199, increased max framerate to 120, and disabled vertical sync, decreased grass to 50%, and quick shadows.  I now get between 100-119 fps with drops to about 60-80 in bigger battles. I have achieved this with ragdoll and corpse set to unlimited, the biggest drop in fps has been around 40-55 or so which is still not an issue at all. I have not tested going much above 200 with battlesizer yet. I don't get much tearing with force vert sync off, not enough to really decrease the eye candy and I have noticed that it increased my fps the most. Maybe this will help for some.
