Battle "Size", or rather the lack of it... What's

Users who are viewing this thread

I'll skip right to the point, and open up with an example:

I, being rather low on Charisma, am commanding a small force of 22 Vaegir Footmen, Mercenaries, Skirmishers and the like. On the World Map, near some Swadian city whos name I can't remember at the moment, I come across a Vaegir Warband of 17 people that has just clashed with its Swadian equalent of 21 men. I stumble in to assist mah homees, and the info screen appears with its "The odds are "X, You Have X Amount of Footmen, Peasants etc, the Vaegirs and Swadians have X amount of this and that..." And so on.

Now, reading the number of men on each side, I should have an approx. 60 man battle ahead of me. How is it then that the most I see troughout the whole clash is a handful of some 20 men alltogether? I start in one part of the map along with my allies, right? I should therefore see my force of 22 men mixed with my allied officer and his 17 men, some 40 men or so alltogether, in other words.

I hardly see 15.

What is this? Is there a some kind of a dumb limit? If so, why can't I set the limit manually? In the Options screen, there's a bar called "Battle Size" or something, and I have dragged the slider all the way to the right, but the fact is that I have smaller fights than I should anyway.

What's going on here?! Please help.

thats why the producers should make a MMO, it would be so cool, with me vs you 50 men a side, clashing with another 2 enemies in an all out war.

...Adding shrill cries of "OMG U R A GAY N00B LOL!!!1111ONE" to the atmosphere. Trust me. The world doesn't need more MP games...

I assume there's a debate coming up, now, but let's stay on-topic, please...

Under options you can adjust the battle size. This, as far as I remember, has some effect on the amount of people in a battle at once. Either that or it changes how many 'waves' of enemies you will face.

Your leadership skill also impacts the amount of men you can bring onto the field with you. Note also that allies from different groups are assumed to be under your control for the duration of the battle, that is, they count against the limit of troops you may have on the field.

Other that that, I believe it was a design decision to limit numbers so that the FPS would remain playable.

Having stayed on topic for the entirity of this post, I should like to remark that I totally agree with you about the MP thing. n00b.

The bar you talk about does indeed change the ammount of soldiers you have in each battle, but it cant get past a certain ammount. I think its something with the engine or somesuch.

I think i read in some thread, that armagan would try to change this and make the battles be bigger if so desired, but for now, this is where we are at.

Unfortunately no...

I wish I had full control on how many troops you could have with you (totally ignoring things like system requirements etc for large amounts of troops on the screen). The ability to take all my troops with me on combat or have some as backup if things were to go bad etc etc.

are you calling me a noob?

It's not like the graphics of M&B will be a HUGE performance hit either... Anyway, you should be able to configure it yourself, yes... Don't worry SCopE, the only thing sadder than people calling someone "N00b", is people who actually get upset from being called it...

im not finding it offensive, just the thought of a lower being than myself attempting to offend me in a way that makes me feel upset by using n00b hilarious.

i do also think that arguing on the internet is tardish.
