i did all of that, if some1 could tell me wut to change in the hex editor then i could just do that cuz it seems much easier, i already have an editor, thanx for ur help smaug but i really dont kno wut im doin wrong

ok, i got the mod and i set it up and everything, but every time i try to enter a battle M&B exits and sais "out of static buffer", how can i fix this?

Good question, and there's only one way to find out. I have 1 gig of ram, and I regularly use battle size of 150 or so. I'd say start around there and tweak it till you start getting a lot of crashes.

Looks like it's not working for .730

Anybody wanna take a crack at it? Looks like Hardclyff hasn't been active since November.

I might take a stab at it. I've checked out the options.dat file and the format and length have changed. I've figured out how to read and set the battle size value, which is calculated differently than in earlier versions.

I've successfully tested setting the battle size to various values. Well, at least went into options and verified it was showing the correct number; I haven't gotten into a huge battle to be absolutely certain yet.

I think I'll try to hack together a little program to duplicate the functionality of Hardclyff's tool.
Question: what should I set the maximum limit to? It's 414 in Hardclyff's program. Was there a reason for this, or just an arbitrary limit?

Arbitrary I'd imagine. Unlikely that most peoples PCs would be able to handle anything too much over 200.

Alright, due to lack of motivation to try another, I just stuck with the old limit of 414.

It wasn't that difficult. I've actually got it done and it seems to be working fine. I don't have a game set up with large armies to test it though.

So, who wants to be the guinea pig and has large armies waiting to clash? PM me about it and I'll give you the download link so you can try it out. No worries, it keeps 2 backups of the file it changes: one "original" backup which is only made once, and one regular backup which the old file is copied to whenever you save the changes.

Really? The file format and length have changed slightly along with the way the battle size value is calculated.

If you go to Options, does it show the correct number having used the old one?

The byte location has changed in the file for .730. More specifically, the battle size value was stored in bytes 0x50-0x53 previously, and is now stored in bytes 0x54-0x57.

Still need a guinea pig of course.

Alright, check for a PM. Let me know if it works for you (it should, but who knows).

EDIT: it's tested and works like a charm. Nairagorn and I have both played through some large battles with it.
I'll release it tomorrow in a nice installer package and everything. I'm dead tired right now and need some sleep.

I have a 7800 GT and an AMD 3800+ and playing with around 80 people and above I get some fairly steep framerate drops (into the low 30s, high 20s). What do others get with comparative hardware?

My computer is absolutely adware, spyware free, etc.

I've got a BFG overclocked 7800 GTX and an Athlon 64 3000+ and I get about the same framerate hits. I think the game just isn't very optimized yet.
