Battle of Fulda Gap - Wargame: Airland Battle Campaign

Day 2 Battlefield Report: Following their victorious defense at Petersburg, Soviet motorized forces launched a counter offensive against the retreating US aggressors. As a show of support the United Kingdom moved a mechanized brigade south to the Fudal Gap to show international support against any further engagements with the Canadian commonwealth as an auxiliary force to prevent Soviet forces from possibly crossing the Fudal River and pouring into West Germany. Under the advisement of US strategists, both British and Canadian taskforces moved to the front instead of the traditional border of the West and East split of Germany. It is unknown at this time if Soviet command knew of this and viewed it as a provocation or was not aware as it was not announced until local ground forces were already pushing the front.

Two major engagements happened in Fudal as first US forces were in retreat to allow the Canadian taskforce to reinforce the line with fresh and organized troops. Caught between the oncoming Canadians and with Soviet forces pursuing, it was decided between Canadian and American officers to mount a united defensive operation to allow time for wounded and disorganized units from yesterday's engagement to fall back behind front lines. British reinforcements were alerted and were on their way to support the Canadians in their counter attack against the incoming Soviet motorized division.

Ultimately both Canadian and American forces failed and the onslaught did not end with the British reinforcement and the full withdrawal of disorganized American forces.

To be honest. You were holding back alot more than we were. When you were suppose to be on the offensive and only won on a technicality by points and not by areas owned.

It's funny you said this because I was actually holding back against you and Odyseuss for the first battle and once you left and Vermillion took your place I played it a bit tougher with not knowing the skill level of Vermillion.

Maybe next time I'll unleash my full force and take out your starting zone, crippling your air support.

Truth be told I was not too happy with the AT capacity of my deck. The Saladin does not match up against the T-55, especially due to the numerical advantage enjoyed by the latter, and having to use ATGMs as my only defense against such precluded offensive actions on my part.

I'm totally open to modifying your deck, you'll have to propose one with your own deck building though as I'm currently at my brother's house until Sunday night. I would like it though if you just edited the one you used and kept within the same bounds.

Also I know Gaham and Odyseuss want to edit their decks as well and did some temporary edits during our last game, so I'd be open and more than happy to see any of their proposals.

Alright here's my proposed new deck, in keeping with the general theme of the overall conflict:

I think it would be better if you kept the support AA and AT infantry while removing the 17 veteran Fusiliers. The tanks and new aircraft are both fine, but instead of getting the points from the infantry setup, I would take them from recon and vehicle while preserving the Green Jacket infantry scouts.

Sorry I can't shoot you back a more detailed counter-proposal, I'm still at my brothers until maybe 7pm central.

Alright, here's the updated deck with suggestions in place, I'll make any further changes if you deem them necessary:

Sorry I couldn't make it last night.

RP reason: The Canadian Taskforce retreated to the Netherlands to regroup and meet up with reinforcements. Canada is pushing for war against the USSR.

The hell? If this isn't war I don't know what is. Both sides have had over a thousand casualties now.

Logistically this wouldn't make sense, especially given wartime conditions.

Day 3 Battlefield Report: Peace talks between East and West have completely broken down and the world has gone to DEFCON 1 according to NORAD and the doomsday clock is now at two minutes to midnight. Nuclear war is imminent, yet both forces have yet to unleash their arsenal. Between the second and third day of the Fudal Gap engagement - which is no longer being called as an incident - sporadic offensive exchanges have happened along the German border. Soviet command has restricted air traffic to Berlin for NATO and it seems likely that if - or rather when - communist forces assault Berlin, the garrison there will be forced to surrender and there will not be another Berlin Airlift as there was in 1948.

In Asia, North Korean troop movements seem to indicate the start of another Korean War while sources inside China confirm preparation for the invasion of Taiwan. Australian and New Zealand fleet-based operations have been moved further North to counter this possibility.

In the Americans a rumor of another Bay of Pigs is circulating while Cuba prepares for an invasion.

However, in the Fulda Gap - the hotspot and start of an imminent WW3 - the early gains by NATO forces have started to crumble as PACT border regiments secure the pre-established border in Fulda itself. Both sides have sent reinforcements to the region and local tacticians believe the next major engagement to either occur in Ebersburg or Gersefeld.
