Battle Commands Question

When I tell my infantry to "hold this position" after it says, ". . . . and attack the enemy archers".  Then they run off to attack the enemy when I want them to hold a position. This is disastrous when I'm outnumbered and I need my troops to hold a strategic position.

Does anyone know how to control this or turn it off? Sometimes it's okay if I'm sending my companions towards the enemy archers and I tell them to "hold this position .. .  and attack the enemy archers."

But I have no idea how to control this and it's really frustrating.

Thanks

I always hated how undisciplined the troops seemed. I'd tell the archers to hold position but as soon as a single enemy got within 30 yards, the entire line would move backwards. I hadn't used the Stand Ground command too much, as it seemed to move my ranks a bit, but has anyone else had any experience with it?

Use Stand Ground command.  The won't budge even if the enemy is standing right out of their reach.

Anyway, are you playing with Native commands? I don't remember that there was a command for "attack enemy archers".

Disregard this thread. I thought I was posting in the Floris mod forum. That's the mod I'm using and having trouble with.

Thanks though.

Really? Hmm, I must have hit the wrong button, and then never used it again. My bad.

Hold Position and Stand Ground are two different commands.  Holding is the "default" way of placing your troops on the battlefield.  With that bots will try to engage close enemies.  With stand ground they won't, and usually it's not very useful apart from making them stop going down the ladder in sieges.

It can be useful if you've got a long line of archers, and you want to maintain your position atop a ridge, or need to quickly prepare for a cavalry charge or something. It has a tendency to be really unreliable though -- cavalry "stajding their ground" will charge and pursue enemies they're "targeting" sometimes, and infantry slowly shuffles around. Why they didn't just make stand ground mean bloody stand yer bloody ground is beyond me.

I think that if you repeat the command several times it actually works.  Up to three times?  Something like that.
