Someone may have suggested this before, but here goes:

How about if you join Swadia or Vaegir in certain towns you can leave troops behind for a certain cost? This might solve a lot of gripes people have concerning stacking units, running out of room, or not enough control over unit advancement.

Examples:

-You need to capture a nobleman but are one stack short. Instead of dismissing troops you just leave a few footmen behind, then return for them when the mission's done.

-You see a group of crossbowmen you'd like to attack, but you don't want to have them kill any of your knights, so you head back to town first and swap them out for some archers.

So this can't be abused too much, at least at first, maybe the total amount of troops you can have in your party and out should be limited to say, twice your max party members.

But isn't noble considered a slave or hostage? Or has this chanced in the latest release?

1. Yes nobels go with you as prisoners
2. Still a good idea :)

But with the latest changes on leadership skill (1 extra stack per skill) it may no longer be needed. Are you playing the newest version yet?

I think the idea has merit for reasons beyond those listed in the first post.
I like the idea of having a "reserve force"

Even better, (getting slightly off topic now) It would be wonderful if you could establish your own fort, garrison troops there, and weather sieges.
I know this is a big design change, but it should be something to consider for MB2

Haha that's what I wanted to say too :D But thought it would go too much offtopic.

The downside to this is that you can train your troops and when they reach their maximum level, you store them in one of the many cities. Eventually people might have hordes of knights and sharpshooters and the like in every city. Especially with training skill maxed (+ on marnid and borcha).
