Bannerlord was a grift

Thank you! This is the healthy middle between two polar opposites. I couldn’t agree more. When talking about the majority of the players, its impossible to go to a extreme and state that they simple dont care, understand or want a more complex gameplay.
I don't disagree with you, and I don't think lessor of anyone who enjoys that aspect of the game the most. What I believe a lot of people are frustrated about is that Taleworlds advertised their game through their devblogs and conventions as being something way deeper than what we got. I don't see why they shouldn't be held liable for those promises just because a segment of the fanbase believe the game is great as it is.

Honestly to me this looks more like a promotion of the game than an objective review though. He started losing me at this:

In this game, you can do whatever you want. Be a blacksmith, or a caravaneer that goes from town to town buying and selling goods for profit. Kill innocent villagers and take their money. Become a country’s vassal or mercenary and go to war for king and country. The possibilities are endless, and that is where the fun is in Bannerlord.

This just isn't true. I mean, it technically is true, but any approach to the game that isn't fighting for loot is either severe self gimping (trading) or an exploit-ish mini game (smithing). I also laughed internally at the mention of the great modding community. You can't really have proper mods for the game right now, and if you do they will break between patches. I also don't see all this love from TW for their game. And by that I mean that I am sure the devs are passionate about their job (otherwise they would be working somewhere else), but it hardly shows in game (yet another case of things being under the hood and not visible to the player).

That is absolutely laughable. "Whatever you want". Whatever you want minus feasts hehehehehe....

In reality, they got a lot of balls to say that. Obvious shilling and grifting. I wonder how much they got paid to write such a positive review.

Pros:

  • One of the best modding communities around
  • Completely unique strategy experience
  • Massive scale, both in map and battles
  • Developers that care and keep up with the game
  • A ton of freedom to play the game how you want
  • Great multiplayer community
  • Great RPG elements
I totally want to play the version he has.

Most "reviews" for Bannerlord are people playing for a few hours and then saying "wooooaahhh, the battles are so cool, the game looks like it has a lot of content, 8/10." That is if they aren't memeing about it on Steam. Or they say "it's a rough foundation, but TW will take the game far", which is clearly not the case.

Bannerlord is sort of like the English/British Royal Family's claim to the French throne. It was taken very seriously in the 1400's and very well could have come to fruition, however centuries later, it's just become an archaic joke, a relic of the past, what could have been.

It highlights the pros and cons of singleplayer for those who've never played an M&B game in a more accurate and balanced way than this thread.
I mean that is a pretty low bar to clear, but my gripe with it is that it says things that are just objectively misleading. That is kind of a red flag in a review.

The most interesting quote for me was:

I have rarely seen a person who owns this game have less than 100 hours in it, and I have commonly seen them have 200 or 300.

I'm sure the reviewer is referring to new players. The big difference between the singleplayer experience for newbies and invested M&B veterans is we wanted the game to hold us for 2,000 to 3,000 hours, which is a pretty unrealistic demand of a game at this price.

  1. Massive scale, both in map and battles - lol, 2 or 3 town templates (excluding the Imperial ones), and about 6 or 7 templates for field battles. Massive indeed.
  2. A ton of freedom to play the game how you want - yeah, you can either fight battles, kill bandits or sell goods from town to town. Huge freedom lol.
  3. Great RPG elements - ??? Have they even played the actual game? The kind lord will beat ur bum as well as the evil lord, and the coward lord will stay his ground with only 20 peasants against your 200 elite troops just as well as the brave lord will do. They wont surrender, they won't show mercy to you, they won't offer you to joint their kindgom or betray your liege, they are like NPCs running around with 0 importance or personality. While in CK 3 the death of some noble person may have serious consequences, the death of any noble (EVEN THE KING!) in Bannerlord will change nothing, you won't even notice that
  4. Completely unique strategy experience - F1->F3, unable to give order to attack a specific troop type and not being able to effectively command ur troops during siege attack/defence is a completely unique strategy experience
Feels like this article was written by a man, who didn't play the game at all, or played a few battles and was like "WHOAH" - and then he wrote this article, adding some of his "wannabe" fantasies to it. It's unprofessional and actually misleading the potential buyers.

P.S. My post here may look like a splash of toxic hatred towards the game, but hey - everything mentioned above is a solid fact, would be very unwisely denying it.

Honestly so true. A warband player is considered a noob if they have less than a thousand. The four digit hour Warband club is quite vast, and with the failures of bannerlord (more people were on US GK siege night yesterday then all of bannerlords native multiplayer, I checked at multiple points) it’s not surprising more and more are joining said club. As for bannerlord, well….

When people say grand stuff like that about Bannerlord, it feels like I'm watching Mafia City ads.

If only we could get pewdiepie to do a meme review on bannerlord...

Memes aside, trash reviews on Bannerlord, while not on the same par as Mafia City, are pretty close. I'd put them in the tier of Kilian Experience, just with more cringe and less humor.

Idk what's worse buying this trash game and getting scammed or these taleworld fanboy bots that shout down anyone who disagrees with them
I won't judge too hard because it's your first post in a while, but how do you end up calling the game trash in an attempt to agree with us, but then insult us anyway in the same sentence?

No offense but you need to work on that.

Oh yeah... its the people who like the game shouting people down.... surrrrreeeeeeeee :wink::wink::wink::wink::wink::wink:
Stop oppressing us, Taleworlds fanbot! Or we will start posting rant threads and reveal to the world how this game was a scam, despite the constant censorship* and abuse from moderators!
