Bannerlord is mis-advertised by the devs on Steam (yes, even taking into account Early Access)

I loved VC as well. I have also played Bannerlord for 100s of hours (way too much already) however I think the Vanilla game falls short.

VC was much more developed in the following areas:

Battle AI and Formations:
Formations were effective and you could micromanage your troops movement, specifically in Shield Wall formations
( I liked the Shield Wall + Advance 10 paces combo )
Troops did not get stuck on ladders/shield walls and would siege in an effective manner
Diplomacy/Lord Relationship
You had a myriad of opportunity to increase relationships with lords, to include quests, fighting together etc.
Feasts were common where you could meet ladies
Quest Development
The main quest was excellent and there were side quests that were also enjoyable.
Kingdom Management
You had many more options in Kingdom Management - Taxes, etc
Lords would show up to your Court wanting to join up
When a Lord joined your Kingdom, they very rarely left unless you kicked them out

Just hurts to see things like this, makes me wish VC was on the Bannerlord DEV team. Those guys had great ideas for immersion.

How is it even possible that these things are worse/non existant now, after years of development??? I don't know anything about game development, but this just doesen't seem to make any sense.

They did not reuse anything from Warband, so it's not like they could just plug all of that in. Add bad management, and here we are.

But it surely is not like starting from 0 isn't it? I mean the concept of all of these systems is rather complex but it existed already, so that must have at least saved "some" time. Seriously, we waited for over 8 years in expectation to get something better than what we already have. The whole time they were advertising all these new cool features, I thought I'm going to get ontop of what Warband had to offer. For exaple they advertised the advanced formation and micromanagement of troops, which was supposed to be an improvement over Warbands, yet it doesen't even work correctly at all, so its even worse! So what were they working on? The delayed, unresponsive combat system? The broken perks? The still unfinished maps? The mediocre graphics? All they seem to do is to keep trying to make it stable and run smoothly, something that is the absolute foundation of every game, something that should be done before even letting people play the game (Its not alpha or beta anymore!). To me it seems like they just started developing Bannerlord yesterday. Usually I'm on TW side. Sometimes critical but mostly defending them, because I know they aren't bad people and want Bannerlord to be a great game as much as we do, but not even getting a patch this week, honestly, just pisses me off. What grinds the most on my moral is, that we don't even get any information about some sort of progress. We're allways left in the dark, waiting an indefinite amount of time, speculate about the next patches, make ourselfes hopes for awesome features to come, only to suddenly get a new patch, that destroys all our hopes. The longer we wait, the higher the expectations get, the more we are dissappointed and frustrated when the new patch comes and brings some rare bug fixes or something along that line. This is why I'm getting so upset right now. I already see the next patch, I've waited so desperately for, bringing minor changes and bug fixes, which I really don't care about. This would me and a lot of others loose their last bit of hope in TW. Sorry for that long text and any writing mistakes, I should be asleep but this had to be said.

From a purely implementational point of view, it kind of is like starting from zero yes. They were using a new system, and a new language as well to write code.

That said, I agree with you for the most part. The state the game was in at release was unacceptable, and while they have made some changes since then, it's been incredibly slow. Which I suppose is no surprise given that it took several years to produce what to an external observer looks like two years worth of work at best.

I just don't think there's a whole lot we can do about it except wait, see what comes next and hope for the best. I have taken a break from playing Bannerlord myself for now, the experience was just plain unfun.

I don't understand these people who played for hundreds and hundreds of hours. After 100 hours I was thoroughly burnt out and would rather have the finished, modded product retain a high level of freshness for me.

Why do people still assume that they are the only one who understands what EA means?

If y'all are judging opinion merit on hours played: 786hrs, the bugs are not even close to 'obscure' and as for interaction with the player base?? come off it. You can keep crowing this is 'normal' for EA but any one with half a brain can see we are being/have been exploited.
Yes, this is harshly worded but accurate.

I have experienced crashes and many bugs. I'm kinda used to it these days... literally every "new" game has them. I wouldn't say it is false advertisement, like if they said the game is 100% perfect and has 0 problems... then that would be false advertisement.

The first mount & blade game, before it came to steam and world renown had a few bugs in it, and later on so did Warband. They all got fixed eventually and the games became fine. Thankfully, Taleworlds is not Bethesda, releasing the same game nearly a decade later, still suffering from game-breaking bugs and crashes lolz

Be patient... and don't forget their is a giant world-consuming plague outside of your house... you might want to pay attention to that, rather than a game that just released a little while ago.
Wow that is some epic and banal apologism there. impressive.

It's compulsive gaming behaviour. I had it too when I was young and had nothing better to do than sit at my PC all day gaming. These people will be sick of the game by the time of the release.

Games are supposed to be fun. If Bannerlord isn't fun to you, then move on. No need to over complicate things.

Yeah, no need to overcomplicte things with all that "giving honest opinions" stuff after spending $50 of your hard earned money. LOL, I envy how simple life must be for you.

exactly. It's why I stopped playing after ~150 hours. There's so many other good games out there right now and honestly many of us should take a break from gaming in general. Catch up on shows or anime...

People do what people do. Don't presume you can know what drives someone else or act judgemental about it, it's just pointless. if someone wants to put in 700+ hours, that's fine. I've already played 200+ which is unusually high for me (corona + lay offs).

I'm late to the party, this thread if old now, but I love the game and definately don't think anything is misadvertised. I can't even imagine how great it will be when it's fully done and I consider it a privilege to be able to pour in 200+ hours even before then and probably hundreds of more later on.

I loved Warband. Give me "Warband 2.0-but-a-bunch-of-annoying-****-is-gone" and I'm good.

It's amazing they used all new engine and managed to pretty much re-create warband but worse.
The reworked the code/engine/whatever several times in the development progress and now they´re doing it again.

Guys: How many reworks do you need?
TW: Yes!

I use a plethora of mods and start play throughs frequently. Beat the game in a multitude of ways.

What good games? Games are trash, this generation is horrible.

I tried that but I stopped playing SP after modded saves broke twice after patches. I tried to just focus on the MP but after a little while, the block delay frustrated me so much it made me uninstall. There's no point in playing either in Bannerlord's current state.

I have almost 300 hours in this game but have started nearly 10 times because you can feel when you have won after a certain point and I simply start again as there is no point once the ball starts rolling you are winning. There just doesn't feel like there is anything there. No matter how many times I start I am not surprised by anything that happens. At this point I am now sitting waiting for better mods to come out and not looking forward to updates from TW as it will just screw with what is actually working in the game.

Also, I don't know about everyone else, but after my first save the early/early mid-game in each successive run was painfully boring and slow and repetitive to just a sad degree. It always felt like a case of "I just have to get through this stage", for many hours, which is really, really not good.
