Banner problem

There's this banner I want that I've seen on some lords in the game but I don't have it available when I get to choose my banner.
So my question is... do different factions get different banners to pick or is this specific banner just unavailable to players

(It's the red-white chess plate, GO GO Croatia!)

it looks like this but in the shape of the banner and without the gold trim.

Hmm, that's the one that King Harlaus got when I took his rampant lion--I call it the picnic tablecloth banner.  In .96 it was selectable.  Hadn't noticed that it's not in 1.0.

From what I've seen, the lords tend to use the same banner in every game.  If you choose theirs, then the game substitutes another for them, as I described above for King Harlaus.

some Rhodok lord got it in my current game (1.003) and some Vaegir had it in my older game (0.960)

Maybe because you can't steal another lords?  I don't really know, I don't really care to much about banners.  I just choose one real fast and basically forget about it the next day.

When you chose a banner that is being used by another lord they get assigned a new banner, the checkerboard one you showed.  You have to replace the banner you are using with the other if you want it by opening the banner file with your banner and pasting the chekerboard over the one you have.

I like it better w/o a banner personally.
Unless it helps me get more men into my party then doesn't really matter to me.

I tend to dissagree... The banner for me adds a lot; The shields especally.
I like having more or less every single one of my people having my banner on their shield. Helps tell them apart, as well as.. well, i just like the pretty pictures ^^
