Are you sure you're not being a bit overzealous? Am I the only one who thinks these nicks, while immature, aren't really all that offensive? Hassling people about nicks like these strikes me as overstepping your mandate as an admin. You're supposed to maintain order, not create strife, no?

No offense, obviously, but I figure since we're just admins here we should be able to have an open discussion about policy. Maybe make a thread about it?

I don't think we were being overzealous. If the players had cooperated after the first warning, there would have been no disturbance. However, both Hunter and Big refused to show any degree of maturity. Both played dumb and pretended as if there was nothing wrong with their names.

The issue ultimately became whether or not Seawied and myself would continue to tolerate their blatant contempt for simple administration. Hunter eventually gave up and stopped his idiotic behavior. Big didn't, and after a plethora of verbal warnings and cautionary kicks, Seawied did the only thing that would end Big's childish, goading scorn.

So while I agree we admins should attempt to disrupt things as little as possible, Seawied and I were given little choice.

If you pick a name which could cause offence then I figure you're already accepting some level of risk. There's plenty of letter combinations you could choose which won't be offensive to anyone. If you don't want to be told to change your name then you can easily steer clear of anything which could be construed as offensive. As long as you don't, then you can't really complain when someone calls you on it.

Course the problem here isn't so much whether the name was offensive as the behaviour when asked to change it. If he'd came back with an inoffensive name and changed it once the admins left, or simply went to another server then fair enough. As it is, he comes back with a similar name and then when asked to change it again, declines. That to me says "blatant antagonism", at which point I figure you're breaking the "being bloody stupid" clause.

Kicked 'Adolf' after multiple unheeded warnings because I figured most players would associate the name with Adolf Hitler and I thought it too unlikely that the player chose the name without considering the potential implications. He maintained that he shouldn't have had to change the name, but he didn't come back after the kick.

Kicked Theaq after multiple unheeded warnings for glitching at Ruins in an area where he could shoot us but we couldn't shoot him, even though the bolts would accurately hit where he was. Strangely, he tried to convince me that it wasn't glitching because he just walked into the glitch spot.

Adolf says his real name is Adolf. I think you must believe him on that. (Hitler isn't the only person ever to have the name 'adolf'.)

I told him to bring it up via PM if he truly wished to retain the name. I guess it's really important to him...

There's no reason to ban a user named 'Adolf' or Sir_bigusdickus or whatever it was. Like Mahud said Adolf could infact be someone's first name, surely. And bigusdickus is a Monty Python reference which I don't find at all offensive. I'm really not that much 'on a hair trigger' if someone infact happens to disagree with me about something and I think that the recent few kicks/bans might actually harm us more than do us good/have been somewhat uncalled for in the end.  Could you guys be more.. Calmer next time, please. Surely people can critize admins even on the servers, but if it's in someway in context there's really no reason to kick or ban.

Banning people from the servers should be avoided and used in extreme cases. Having an argument/disagreeing with an admin should never be the main reason behind someone's ban, in my opinion. "Do this or I'll ban you" doesn't sound that good to me.

Has been for admins here on the forums...

Reference or no, I didn't like Bigus' name. So, I told him to change it. Therefore, someone was offended, and therefore, he needed to change it.

to be honest, I personally don't mind players being named milfhunter, bigusdickus, or adolf. It doesn't offend me. At the same time, when I get complaints about names like that in server from other players, I kindly ask that they choose a more appropriate name, as the other players request was not unreasonable. Bigus was banned because of his immaturity and trying to cause unnecessary strife in the server. Players started to poll for big to be kicked, at which point I decided it was the final straw and put in the ban. To be perfectly clear: he was banned for his immaturity antagonizing the admins, and causing disruption.

Personally, so long as a players name does not harass another player, a group of people, or a community, I'm fine with it. If it creates a negative environment, I'll ask them to change it.

and sad, I'm a monty python fan too. I'd would go as far to say that the holy grail is one of the top 10 comedies of all time . But when you come in with a name like bigusdickus, reference or no, you start walking a fine line in a beta test.

If the person politely disagrees with the decision, I'll be much more likely to rescind a decision I made that I considered questionable. But if they're going to be immature about it and constantly flaunt admin authority, they ultimately corner the admin into having to punish them. Even if an admin is wrong, when a player refuses to initially comply after discussion is no longer an option, a kick is justified. Players need to learn how to PM issues to us instead of us simply refusing to temporarily submit to admin authority.

I dunno about that. Hardly seems reasonable to expect them to privately petition you over the use of a certain in-game nick.

Banned Add_*something* (cant remember his exact name)

For failure of teamplay on the battle server and disrespectfullness. (Some people purposely stayed out of fights so that they could duel everything out, last time I check you have duel servers for that and not battle servers - So I warned him not to do it, and he continueed anyway. So the kick came, and his disrespectufullness behaviour started which followed in the banning of him)

Funny thing how I just mentioned about this issue with 'admin disrespectfulness' and such and how we should not be 'on a hair trigger' about these kinds of things.. Glad that thing was sorted out (?) and things are okay between parties involved. I said it once and I'll say it again: Wait a long time before banning someone and avoid making irrational decisions hastily.

This was probably a bit hasty of a ban in retrospect. Racial and sexual slurs aren't the kind of talk I want to see when I hop on for a quick few rounds, it goes from funny to offensive quickly.

Stigandr -> Replied 'Don't tell me to chill nigguh' when I warned him after he repeatedly called another player a ******, eat a ****, etc. He was being problematic the other day too, as I recall.

Banned "ZULU_umThakathi" from S6 which was converted to a duel server. He was running around backstabbing people (kicked him), then he came back and started punching people already in duels, resulting in ban.

Kicked 'Shieldings_PorkkanaMurhaaja' from EU Siege server due to repetitious swearing in Finnish

This is only a voteban, but LLJK_Mazrael was being problematic...

Blocking Julia's view as a crossbowman, then when she (quite justifiably) shot him in the face, he insisted she apologize, refused to fight in following rounds, delayed the game, etc.

Kicked 'gibbon' twice because of Castle I grieving, he opened the gate 3-4 times as a defender. "I don't want to be locked inside a castle with a horse"

I've only come across a few of the LLJK guys, but every one of them I've dealt with has caused problems
