I'm against that idea as the Empires/Confederations did have a central leadership, either it be a specific tribe, royal family, or city-state.

Err, I get that. So what I was proposing is that whatever family is in the position of central leadership gets the country card for the entire nation, and can carry out actions for the entire nation, but will still have to work with the other families to raise armies or institute social, religious, or political changes.
Oh I understand now, so how like republics work in Crusader Kings II? I think it may be a little too complex and leave players not in central control to have too little to do. I don't prefer to do that, but if enough voice their opinion to this idea, I'll run with it.

BlackTide 说:
Deadlines would have to be massively extended if you wanted that kind of player cooperation to occur, especially with players in different timezones.

We could just coordinate it so the families for each country would be from the same timezone. And Steam or Skype chats would help. Just make sure there are rigid deadlines and make sure the families of the country coordinate through means other than just PMs, and it could work fine.

BlackTide 说:
That would completely nerf them, players are spiteful little bastards at times, those empires would go nowhere. Unless it were the same for all nations, that would be a stretch too far.

That said, the threat of the surrounding nations would force the families to work together for survival in times of war.

Come to think of it this could be a pretty neat social experiment.

I'm against it, for now. Maybe for the next game.

Imagine the workload Dodes is already going through.

Maybe he could get some other people to help with the workload? Seeing as the game will be a lot more stat based, rather than up to the will of the Game Master, it would be easier to do.

Perhaps have someone who's dedicated job is to handle the great Empires?

I'm thinking of making battles public in that they are reported like events so that my taleworlds friends can help me process the battles.

In any case what I wanted to do was be the Satrap of Mesopotamia, as it was such a lush, rich land and I kind of wanted to play the Merchant prince type of character.

That would be ruinous to the military aspect of the game. It would provide possible rivals with the exact composition of an army without having spied for it; information that would be difficult to get in other games with a large credit investment. They would leave no room for artistic license when saying "There was no resistance to my invasion". the entire world would not hear about particular battles in such detail, either. Other than 'decisive win' or 'Crushing defeat' news of battles would not be in such depth as exact figures.

I suppose you're right about specifics, I'll just announce things like "crushing defeat" or other Total War type battle results

The people that participate on the battles should get the specifics, though.

I disagree, unless you trained your messengers in arithmetic, exact unit figures should not be available. The general size of the army as a whole would be far more reasonable, unless credits have been invested in discovering specifics.

Those involved in the battles will get the specifics of their side and a report of the enemy, depending on if you have invested credits into messenger systems or similar like BlackTide proposed. You will get something like "There were spearmen, cavalry and skirmishers. There were more spearmen than skirmishers and more cavalry than spearmen." if you don't have anything invested into battlefield report systems.

I'm just here to claim my reserved Carthaginian Empire. As Dodes said, though, if enough people protest that I get a reserved spot then I will freely relinquish it. We just agreed on it due to me staying up until 3 AM doing math and helping Dodes make the combat system and such.

In any case, whoever plays Rome should be a bit nicer than history, imo.
