Bad relations with Northhymbre - "trip on your sword"

Hey,

I'm about 30h into the game, playing storymode. I've raided England a few times and(because pagan and lore and bash monks) raided monasteries as well. That decreased my standing with most of the kingdoms constantly, which is basically no problem for me. But now, after sailing with Harald and Sven to England for the first time, I have severe problems to continue story mode since all of Ragnars sons attack me. As they are strangely enough lords of Northhymbre(-15 relation).
What I tried: teleported close do Rathbart, so I could get to talk to him before he realised that he wants to attack me. Worked, and by reporting to him I even increased my relation with him by 10. But nevertheless, when asked for peace he declines. If I leave and get back to him after a few ingame days - same. When cheated relation to him to 100 - same. When all of this applied to King Egbert instead - same. I've run out of ideas. Any more suggestions? I'm on Warband 1.170 / VC 2.028, the lates steam version.

post a link to download your savegame, so developers can have a look. You can use Dropbox, GoogleDrive, ... to upload it.

dialog for peace usually assumes you are king/consort of your own faction (which is not the case in storyline). Game sets your relationships when starting quests, but as you have being off script (30hours in what takes less than 10hours) you may have done something that broke the flow of quests

After continuing a little in the story, I've been pretty lucky - Bjorn Ironside talked to me and gave me a task and by the time I've completed that, my relation to Northhymbre had just gone up 3 times - each time by 5. So that now I'm exactly at relation 0 and they desist from attacking. Lucky me!

Nevertheless my savegame, as the peace-making problem is not yet solved:

I've placed my char directly "on" a noble from Mierce(-21), so you can try for yourself.

I can't think of anything I've done which might have caused this problem. The journeys to Ireland were quest related and I did actually nothing more than to raid around the shoreline while travelling there. Isn't it normal behavior, that if you get a quest you try to complete it? How could this cause any problems?

How could this cause any problems?

to have bad relation with Northumbria it means you attacked their territory. They are the pagan kingdom on England, so you attacked your "allies", while travelling to Ireland. That is the most likely scenario.

you are free to walk around the world, but remember the storyline has a script, and the longer and further you move away from it, the higher the chance you will do something that can have a negative impact on your story. There is always a chance that you may do something so off the script that devs have not taken into account when designing the quests.

It's funny how players go always a step further than you and they do something you didn't think about... Now to the topic, the storyline is thought to be played in a non-sandbox way... you have some liberty but if you take too much liberty... it might breakes something. I wil check it but I would suggest you to starts again without going to much away from the storyline itself.

PD:: I loaded your savegame and there is no lord next to you I see you don't have the Ragnar Langseax (did you lose it in a battle?)... try using the cheats (Camp->Options->More->Cheat Menu on->CHEAT MENU!->Find item->768 to 863)

Ragnars seax was with Solveig at that point, no problems with that. I'll just continue the story, as meanwhile I've become a vassal of Northhymbre and relations balanced out. If further problems occur I'm sure I'll work my way around somehow.
I think I'm just not used to playing M&B in like a non-sandbox-way. Thanks for your support!

Have you checked the mission description? You are trying to make peace with a faction you are at war in the storyline...hardcoded war
