Some errors again in that tree and again mixing up time eras. And again we should either go with English language or the language of the units themselves, not mixing them up.

I think its best to pick each faction in its glorytime to best represent them. So Rome in the Marian times. And Sparta around Thermopylae/Platea time.

(In Roma Surrectum II time Sparta was just a shadow of its past.)

Following EB for the Romans:

Roman Villager --> Roman Legionair --> Roman Legionair Veteran --> Roman Centurion
                                                        \
                                                          Roman Veteran Skirmisher

("Barbarian") Roman Villager --> Auxilia Infantry--> Auxilia Cavalry
                                                                          \
                                                                            Auxilia Archers

Auxilia were non-Romans but it would be hard to represent that ingame so might be best to also let them develop from Roman Villagers.

And in Marian times the Auxilia wouldn't wear Roman equipment but their own equipment. (Gallic, Germanic, Iberian)

Personally I love all the ideas. Especially the large troop trees with large varieties.
That will definitely put the icing on the cake, so to speak.

When it comes down to era, it won't be too bad to mix up one or two era's, but for historical accuracy it would be better not to.
As for using English, it may just be easier to use the native language of the country or empire.

Just a random thought, but could you two (Seek N Destroy and Phalanx) work together through any way you can to make the most accurate troop tree per faction, sort of like you are already doing by discussing? It is desperately needed, and you guys will be a huge part of my credits as it is.

But for more specifics:
@Phalanx
A few minor errors aren't that big of a deal, just because A: Nobody will notice, and B: They can be polished up and fixed later. Recoding troops is simple.

@Seek N Destroy
Good work! A few things probably do need finishing up, but for now it looks good for being a rough draft.
Polishing, yet again, can always fix alot of the issues.

If I missed more of what I wanted to say, well... I just now got up, because I was up really late last night scrounging for materials for the mod.

Well as I said I'm mainly concerned about the Spartans. Seek 'n Destroy can take care of the others if he wish so .

And about having huge troop tree. I often find that less is more.

While searching for spartan military units/tactics in the thermopylae timeframe i mostly get "Sparta is the best" "they destroyed everything" well that we all know but i couldn't fin useful information for a possible troop tree  :???:
Do you have some good reliable sources ? If not i will keep the troop tree when they started to decay as it is the most accurate i could find and Sparta did not changed radically the way they fight.
Thanks for the replies Phalanx300 without you, it would be a complete mess

I already made a Spartan troop tree.

They did. Where in their glorytimes there would be 8000/9000 Spartans in later times just 300/800 spartans.

In RSII timeframe they also adapted the Macedonian Phalanx. And in RSII timeframe they were just crushed at Sellasia by the Macedonians just years earlier.

Also why would anyone vote against Multiplayer? If you don't like it don't play it. Let others enjoy it...

They actually began degrading after Thermopalaye. The fighting style was almost always Hoplites + Phalanx + Superior Training. After a certain point they accepted Cavalry, then eventually accepted Archers.

The only major change began with Cavalry and Archers in their ranks.

Spartan used others to fight as Cavalry and Archers as they saw its uses. Spartans themselves though always fought as infantry. A Spartan king always fought in the front rank btw.

Most kings did, but there were a few exceptions. Kings that never went through training were the major ones. And surprisingly, there were a number of them.

As for Spartans, yes, they always fought as infantry in the Phalanx. Only for the sake of making the mod fun and playable did I even want to add Spartan archers and cavalry. Same with Romans, who hired archers instead of trained, and hired most of their cavalry.

Most of the Kings and Commanders/Generals fought in the front line when it came down to Romans and Spartans, because they weren't afraid. But I don't know how to code that to the game, not to mention only two factions....

So you suggest doing a main army with their native land best soldiers and a separate one with their most used allies/mercenaries
Just an example for sparta and rome

helots - young spartan soldiers/recruit - veteran spartans - elite spartan
            \
Greek Mercs such as Cretan Archers/ hippeis/ Phalangites

Peasant - Roman Citizen - Roman Cohors
              \
Barbarian tribes - barbarian auxiliari spearman - barbarian noble cavalry/ Gallic Equites
                                            \
                                              Sagitarii

Note: that is definitely not a troop tree

As I said I already made a Spartan Troop tree.

If possible they should indeed be seperated in some way. Heard Grim Age is allowing to recruit different units depending on the place you recruit them. (Within one faction) If that is possible it would be perfect.

I know you made one and i will keep it, i will just polish it (fix the equipment of some troops, balance, etc..). Make separate troop trees is a good idea but it requires some scripting knowledge, there is another way wich is giving troops to lords armies ( 20 cretan archers ; 15 hippeis) but i think that if they are defeated they will not re-enlist those troops. I have seen in the forge a script that makes some mercenaries follow an army ( i think it is from ikaguia) but it may not work with the lords.
Recruit different units depending of the place would defenitely take the mod to another level and bring more possibilities like introducing Different Legions , regional mercenaries, etc...

I've looked into all the scripts and mercenaries.
There is a town hiring script, but the troops are from the garrison (no help there at all).

If I ever figure that bit of coding out I'll definitely make the regional mercs and the separate troop trees.

I didn't put the equipment to the troops. And can't be bothered to play Singleplayer for ages to see all units .

For future MP I can make suggestions on accurate weapons and armor for certain factions though.

What unit scheme will it have for MP?

For Spartans it will most likely be Perikoi (Butchered it) Archer or Cavalry, and Spartan Hippies.
Wanna suggest changes?

Well was more thinking of some standard scheme for all factions to follow.

For example (Used in Vikingr, but workes like a charm):

1) Ranged.
2) Infantry.
3) Cavalry/Special.
4) Leader.

Such kind of thing, have something in mind for that?

Not sure what  to do with leaders, although I could just make the "Leader" a commander....

But that would work. Since all factions will have basically the same thing.

This looks great, I especially like the story, 10/10 for originality!

You have some really nice models, any chance i can use some for my early Rome mod?
