Auto-block in singleplayer

I have it the other way around  when I was a kid games were so much important - I liked the challenge and had the time to put it into it

Same! My job is hard. It's stressful, it takes a lot of time, attention, and thought. Games are an escape for me. I play most games somewhere between Easy to Normal (and avoid games like Dark Souls entirely) because I'm looking for something fun and relaxing, not something that has me sweating.

I really don't enjoy reflex-based action games, and even moreso as I've gotten older. I don't want to practice a mechanic for hours just to get competent as it (ex. used to do daily aim-training for FPS games, but that's not fun for me anymore). I understand that IS fun for a lot of people, and that's awesome, but in M&B I just want to make it through the early game, to the mid game, and then let my army handle the actual fighting.

And 1/3rd damage/stupid AI isn't the answer, because I don't want my army to just STEAMROLL a superior opponent just because *I* am not good at blocking manually.

This is really about player choice. I hope they add it in, even if they call it a "handicap" feature.

Are you kidding? There were two threads running on this topic on Steam and they both got locked last night because they were literally chock full of elitist douche-canoe's screaming "GIT GUD!" or "USE SHIELD!". What mythical polite version of the Steam forums are you looking at?

Ah, the one I checked was mostly just people saying "Agreed" and "+1", and the anti-autoblock comments were not deep arguments but just memey "git gud lol". People here seem to be seriously offended by the idea of an optional single-player feature.

If you feel that words on a screen are "toxic" or "aggressive" you may want to consider getting your T-levels checked.

I mean, pretty much case in point. Completely unnecessary and insulting and adds nothing to the conversation.

If you think words have no meaning you may want to talk to a therapist about your sociopathy.

I have it the other way around  when I was a kid games were so much important - I liked the challenge and had the time to put into it - I had to have most kills in Unreal Tournament Instagib Deathmach - nowadays I run to games/books/movies to escape from dificulties and only occasionally because I have other hobbies - I can still appriciate challenge, but I prefer challenge that tests my reasonable intelect not my now awfull reflexes

setting incoming damage to 1/3 is making combat easier but not less frustrating - I would rather play with double damage and auto-block ... the thing is that I really loved combat in Warband - I loved it so much with the autoblock and now I'm just missing it
I don't have that much time either, but starting up a game and just winning every time gets me bored quickly.
I like slow progression, doing a little bit of improvement every day, save, then come back later tomorrow. When there is a setback, it's frustrating in the moment, but it makes me want to keep playing so I can recover. If it's win-win-win-win, I will stop playing after a few hours.

That's cool, and that's a choice you have as a player. I enjoyed Warband with autoblock but hard settings everywhere else - it doesn't matter if you're autoblocking or the best manual blocker in the world, you are not going to solo a Lord's army on hard settings.

I just hope they bring the choice to experience the game how you enjoy it back. If they bring it back, you could still play how you are with absolutely no impact to you at all.

I have to agree with this. The more features the better and the more similar to Warband the better as far as controls go. I am honestly having a hell of time with hitting anything with a one handed weapon from horseback because it seems Bannerlord 2 requires you to tilt the camera down about another 20-30 degrees further than Warband to get the same swing angle. This is really throwing me off because I keep whiffing just above their head and I hate how much I have to tilt just to get the sword to swing downward. I also apparently don't understand how to couch a lance either since nothing I do actually braces a couchable lance under my arm, even on a fast horse. Instead I have to draw the lance back and stab with it just like I would with a non-couchable spear. I am getting the timing down and doing great with it, but drawing the lance back to strike is not couching.

Yea, thats true. It would be a toggable choice which you can opt out of, so I don't personally mind if they would add it.
I was just arguing in my previous messages on why it makes sense to not have such an option when an item (shields) already provides this function.

M&B was fairly approachable as an RPG. I don't personally want to be limited to being a shield sandwich whenever I play. Shields also break, and if you've played the tournaments against the fully armored high level NPCs where you're doing ~3-15 damage per hit, and they're doing ~25-40 damage per hit, your shield will break before you can get through to them... haha.

That's totally fine, but it would be nice if they would come out and give a solid statement. I won't play, like you suggested, if the only option is manual blocking - same with a handful of my friends who were all single-player only M&B fans.

And fans of a franchise absolutely have the right to demand features, just as the devs absolutely have the right to deny those demands! But without demanding those features, the developers won't know that people want it.

What I don't understand is the number of people trying to snuff out this request like it doesn't matter just because they won't use it. The toxicity in this forum in particular (Reddit and the Steam forums are MUCH friendlier to people who want auto-block back for some reason) is nuts, and I am not seeing the reasoning behind arguing against a completely optional, completely single player feature.

Most likely due to MP being wet dream for Taleworlds, going somewhere with cybersport and all.
A pity, this used to be a nice RPG to play. Now it's just a Mordhau wannabe it seems.

I'm seriously pissed off with TW rep comment, that is extremely ignorant and disrespectful to their long-standing fans, what they did.
Unfortunately, they are not the first company I see catering to MP audience, and completely ****ting on SP one.
Auto directed blocking was a major QoL feature that made their games playable for me for 8 years.

Whatever, Cyberpunk comes out November, I have stuff to play until then.
This one is refunded. It's a bugfiesta mess anyway.

You realize that sometimes games are supposed to be played certain ways, right? They clearly didn't want the ability to have auto block. Either turn damage down or adapt to the change.

lmao. The "People want to have fun their way" is not an acceptable argument.
And Taleworlds nominated you their voice to tell people how their game should be played, right?

He's merely reiterating the implicit declaration already made by Taleworlds: no auto-block. Should be obvious.

Kingdom management isn't in the game yet either. Is that an implicit declaration that players can't have Kingdoms in Bannerlord?

Give it up already you massive troll. You have no legit arguments against autoblock, you just want to dictate how other people play a video game.

So it seems that TW rep is advocating to "git gud" as well on Steam.
Game is refunded, thank you guys who supported the request to get the basic feature back that made game playable for me for 8 years, but this franchise is over for me.
See you in Cyberpunk.
