These are currently my main complaints about Warband, these features may be fine in single player, but in MP, they just shouldn't be used.

Autoblock takes away a lot of the skill in hand to hand combat, in fact it makes using a shield less effective than just blocking with your weapon :???:
I say, just disable autoblock completely for multiplayer and keep it as an option in single player games.

The horses can jump much too high as it is now, jump height needs to be reduced quite a bit, as it is now riders can jump their horse into and onto places where they just shouldn't be able to go.
Also the super jumping horses are great for avoiding attacks, they just jump over the attackers weapon  Realistic? I think not.

Actually IRL you can do it

I really like manual block, what youre saying is right....but maybey there should also be auto block servers for new players or people who simply dont want a deep game.

I agree auto block should be totally removed from Multiplayer. Even for new players, even though there should be some pointers for new players to practice, how about a warmup for 2 minutes every map/round and in that warm up you could hit your allies but deal no damage, but the attacks could be parried/blocked in this time veteran players could help train newers players and the warmup timer will allow players who are loading up the new round/map whatever to get in the game before the real thing starts.

I totally agree with Yellonet. Autoblock is stupid because it helps players to do unnaturally fast blocks and reduces the game to just simple hack 'n slash. Also the falldamage must be fixed, because it's stupid when ppl jump off the castle walls with horses and in hindsight horses should be removed from the castle defenders or siege game mode needs another way to get the horses out of the castle than jumping off the walls. Oh, and concerning jumping, sometimes when you jump off the wall you get stuck in the aireven up to minutes at a time, this is very annoying because sometimes you hover just above the ground and enemy players may kill you while you can't do anything to protect yourself, it's not a gamekiller bug but very annoying.

i never noticed i always had it set to autoblock until yesterday... what's the difference? do you have to block in that direction?? or is it like parry where u have to block when they wind up?

on a side note- whoever made roots of yggdrassil did a great job w/ the anims  they're epic. (i was playing this mod when i changed the autoblock thing)

if a "level" sistem is developed... i'd say that people under umm... dunno "footman" level could have a "training server" where only people from those levels would play so they can get familiarized with the system...

and yeah ONLY manual blocking

BTW if there are levels, instead of "numbers" i'd love to see something like the ranks of the forum

kinda a noob question.. but i never noticed the option until like yesterday. the only difference in the settings is that one has a bit of recoil...? like you can't just hold your shield up and block 50 people. other than that... for 1v1 it seems the same...? correct me please haha. i wanna know.

Manual/auto blocking has nothing to do with shields, but with blocking attacks with your weapon. Auto blocking is the standard setting, and it automatically blocks in the direction of the swing of the opponent in front of you. Manual block on the other hand requires the player to block the enemy's swing manually, using a similar system as directional swings (moving your mouse left, right, up or down and right clicking).

Also, what's with the auto block hate? There's still lots of skill involved in feinting attacks, whereas with manual block fights usually don't last longer than 2 swings. Just because YOU don't like something, doesn't mean others can't enjoy it. Go play on the strict rules server, ye whiners.

Am I the only one who uses a shield and doesn't give a rats ass about auto block or manual block here?

thank you :] shouldnt it be called auto parry...?

The only skill involved with auto-block is being able to right click whenever you hear the "swish" at the start of an attack.  A blind kid could do it.  It completely removes the element of having to position yourself properly (esp. to see your opponent's attacks) and use the range of larger/slower weapons.  Basically combat devolves to a bunch of retards trying to hug each other.  Feinting on auto-block servers only works against complete noobs or people with high pings, until they realize they have to right click again to block in another direction. Against practiced players (anyone who's played for a week), autoblock "duels" go on for minutes without either party getting hit, basically the first person to get bored/impatient dies.

Autoblock negates many of the advantages of having a shield.  You can just run out into the field and block a bunch of 1-ton warhorsed great-lances, all while spinning around to parry the infantry without a sweat.  Archers no longer have to worry about people with 2-handers, they become just as good in melee as anyone else so they don't even bother running for support.  You can pick up a javelin, put it in melee mode and block everything as well as any other weapon, or as if you had a shield.

Autoblock exposes the lack of depth in melee combat, and favors a select few weapons.  Basically you just grab a spear or bastard sword, and hope a) their ping is bad enough that feinting works b) they're noobs/impatient enough not to absorb a blow before attempting a counter-attack.  When you attack, you try to hit them at the start of your animation, and hope their ping is high enough that they can't react.  The equivalent of a twig is able to stop a 14 pound warhammer, so there's no purpose to using large/slow weapons.  There's no purpose to readying/charging your weapons (just telegraphs your attack), so the people that do use massive weapons end up looking like the star-wars kid waving a play wand around.

The only reason why everyone isn't playing manual block right now is because of ping.  The strict server is the ONLY North American server that gets any play, don't even pretend how euros wouldn't be playing on manual block if they actually had their own manual server.  Often half our players are euros/aussies coming over, even with 100-300 pings, just to play on the strict server, so that should tell you how popular it is.

Nope you are not alone. Most of the "manual block lovers" never go into a fight without a shield, usually with two shields. It's funny to see everyone going "auto block is lame" on forums and the chat.

Even with auto-block defense with 2-handers is much more diffucult with a shield. Try feinting and you'll see the difference. Manual block sounds cool but not so much if your opponent is wearing 3 shields and has a ping much below yours. I don't see the point in forcing something so connection sensitive on every player. If you wanna do something about auto-block nerf shields so they don't create an impassable energy field around you as soon as you right-click.

Edit: I didn't see tests response but I'm gonna answer one thing. We all come to strict-settings server on usa because that's the only one that is populated.

I kind of agree, though it is still often possible to outwit your opponent because reading a block takes time (mostly with 2handers). I prefer this to 2 swing duels though, so I guess it's a matter of liking to watch the respawn timer or liking to fight. :\

How is this not true for a skilled manual block player?

Again, same story in manual block. What do you bring these arguments up for?

The only reason why everyone isn't playing manual block right now is because of ping.  The strict server is the ONLY North American server that gets any play, don't even pretend how euros wouldn't be playing on manual block if they actually had their own manual server.  Often half our players are euros/aussies coming over, even with 100-300 pings, just to play on the strict server, so that should tell you how popular it is.

What Nosfe said.

Right now there are 24 players on the strict server, 34 in the eu battle server, a bunch of stragglers on the EU tdm/siege servers.

1/3rd of the players on the strict server are Euros.. looks like the norm to me.

I may be wrong on that one, I only come over US servers when there are nobody on Euro servers. Sometimes just to see how I do against players who have been accepted earlier. Anyways I don't see why would anyone try manual blocking with a 150+ ping.

seconded. the shield needs a nerf. size should = SIZE. not some number. and leg shots should be doable with thrust, too. (idk if they're not, but i've never managed to get one.)
