Auto-Battle

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but here goes. I tend to get a little click happy, and every now and then accidentaly select the battle option to "sit back and let my troops fight". However, for some reason, i take heavy losses with this option. I had 51 knights in a battle against 55 forest bandits, a fight that even if i did not interfere, my causualities are about 1 knight every 3 of these battles. But...i hit auto-battle, and in that one round lost 14 knights, 5 knocked unconscious, and only dissabled 17 bandits. So, since this option is never really viable unless you want to lose half your army, can it just be removed? Maybe replace it with the option too "charge while my troops sit back and watch"! Being able to solo with a party sitting back out of danger would be cool.

I want to know if it auto simulates an on terrain battle with my units or if it calculates the outcome. I'd like to see more verification dialog boxes frankly, on save, quit without saving (which is right where exit menu is in most games), on sit back and let my troops attack, and on all of them really.

I think it auto-calculates the outcome of the battle based on your tactical advantage and numbers of units present. I doubt seriously if it runs through any sort of simulation but it may.

Whatever the case, just always lead your men into battle to be safe. Learn to avoid clicking too fast and you will avoid the loss of units from automatic battles.

I have noticed one semi-annoying problem with this. The option to attack with allies in the *middle* option, while normally the option to attack is the last option. I find myself clicking the last option when indeed I wanted to attack with allies.

It'd actually be nice if it just started a battle as normal, but put you in "spectator" mode, so that you could watch the battle.

A spectator mode would be a fun idea. But the idea of Auto-Battle is to save you the time of actually fighting the battle i believe. I just every now and then click the wrong thing and lose half my army. My point is that nobody in their right mind would select this option, unless it was like...50vs3, and you didn't feel like fighting that last pointless round. IMO it should just be removed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the enemy starts out the battle by cutting off your line of retreat, there are too many of them to fight, and let's say you're carrying some valuable merchandise, isn't the "send in the troops" option sometimes useful for opening up a line of retreat, so that you can run away after a round? If your crappiest units are sent in first, it might also be helpful in providing you that desperately needed escape speed.

That's one way out of it. You could also go into the battle, tell your guys to follow you and then retreat.
