EARTH 2015
RACE TO THE STARS
AURORA COMMUNITY GAME
Hello and welcome to the second Aurora community game. Hopefully this one will not end with a massive world war and suicidal commercial skippers ruining it for everyone. As per the voting, the starting scenario is "realistic" Earth 2015. Each player assumes control of a single nation, loosely based on its statistics as of 2015 on our Earth.
Transnewtonian theory and minerals have been discovered. Now it is up to our stalwart nations to discover the secrets of the Universe, to explore, expand, exploit and exterminate as they stumble to the Final Frontier.
As before, I will handle all game mechanics, following the orders that players issue. Please send your orders via PM and use this as the topic:
"AURORA - country name"
Once I've replied to your PM, please always reply to my post, so that my poor inbox has a chance of keeping things tidy and organized, instead of sending me random untitled PMs that get easily lost.
At game start, all research will be directed at discovering Trans-Newtonian Theory, after which it will be possible to branch out. No industrial production is allowed until that has happened.
List of orders/priorities
1. MILITARY FOCUS
2. CIVILIAN FOCUS
3. BALANCED FOCUS
A. SOL FOCUS
B. EXTRA-SOL FOCUS
Like in the first game, players also need to decide what general doctrine their Space Navy will assume. The options are:
A) Battle Fleet
B) Carrier Fleet
C) Missile Fleet
Each has its pros and cons. Battle means that you will primarily employ large, heavily armoured ships armed with railguns or lasers. Carrier means that you want to utilize missile-armed fighters, housed on planets and/or carried on lightly armed carriers. Missile approach prioritizes construction of lightly armoured ships that employ mostly missiles. Missiles are often superior to beams but are also more expensive. Carrier based fleet will out range Missile fleet but is more expensive to research and construct as fighters need to be built separately. Feel free to ask further questions if you think of them.
Diplomacy is left entirely to the players. The game supports a variety of things, like research pacts, trade access, gifting of units or ships, spying (but only if you have enough espionage leaders), military alliances, trading of minerals and wealth and so on.
