Audio Issues

Not sure if anyone else has reported this, but when I start the game up, the audio is fine for a few minutes. Then, whenever anything makes a sound, it's accompanied by a sort of staticky sound. The static sounds continue to grow louder, until they drown out the game's sound. Strangely, the static sound occurs even when I turn my speakers' volume all the way down. I'm using DX9.0c with some sort of SB Live! soundcard. I love the game's music, and it's a shame that I have to play with my speakers off.

When I used a certain version (can't remember the version number) of creative's live drivers, I got static regularly in games, I'm using XP's standard drivers now and it seems fine.

Yep, I get the same audio problem. Then again, I've got an Ensoniq AudioPCI card, which doesn't really qualify as "supported" anymore. Tried decreasing sound acceleration to basic, but that didn't help either.

There is also a configuration option you can turn off. You can try changing the line:
disable_frequency_variation = 0
to
disable_frequency_variation = 1

Maybe that will help.

Unfortunately, the crackling reappears after a few moments even with the frequency tweak.

I tried messing around with the audio codec settings in Ffdshow with no success. Tiedye, are you getting crackling with music, sound effects, or both? For me it's the music, which means the problem might lie in the mp3 format.

I disabled music in the config file and the crackling disappeared. It's a shame, really, because I enjoyed the music a lot. Did you compose all those songs, Armagan?

Heh, you think that Armagan is pen name for Lenardo da Vinchi or something? :smile:
Look in the credits :smile:.

No, Balor! Why must you shatter my fragile delusions? :smile:

Didn't even know there was a credits section. Is this accessible in-game? I found the credits.txt file, but that's it.

It seems I only get it with the music. It seems to come and go, though. I played for a couple of hours today, and didn't get it at all, but I didn't change anything. Can't figure out why it only sometimes happens.

Ths could be performance related. You can try reducing the graphics settings, reducing frame-rate limit, battle-size and video options. Updating video and audio options could help too.
