ATS has 200 slot server up, and Launch Party with prizes (poll inside)

Wow, that is more than I thought it would be per month for a server.  Haven't they sold 70,000+ copies of Warband though?  At $30 each, that's over $2,100,000.  I am guessing a lot of that is pure profit, so they should have plenty of cash on hand to run a few big servers.  Say they run ten 200 person servers, spread out all over the world.  That's about $48,000 a year (10 servers x $400 a month x 12 months), but the multiplayer growth it would likely produce would probably cover those costs.  If not then they can just cut them off after a year, and they will have only lost a small fraction of their profits.

I guess that's a little off topic, but I am honestly surprised TaleWorlds isn't leading the charge in hosting some mega servers to promote Warband's PvP.

I can understand why they aren't putting much effort on multi. They are using their profit to cover development cost for M&B and Warband (I think M&B didnt sell well tbh). They also need budget to work on M&B2 which will cost alot more due to (maybe) revised or new game engine or even mechanics. They can easily do 200 servers and more content, but they don't have the time and $ to work on that and do Q&A testings. The most that we would see is, maybe some/little extra content through updates, but that would be pretty much it.

I really hope more people would help me out to stop my pocket from bleeding to death.

Good god thats steep. I'm currently planning a very expensive expenditure for august, but if you have a paypal link I'll see if I can kick a few bucks your way to help with the server

Hey I feel you,  Ive run 2 servers for another game for a long time now,  and its cost me 30$ a month (heck ive spent hundreds of dollars over the years running servers).  Donations are very hard to come by.  If you ever decide to keep the server permanantly siege,  I will be willing to donate some money every month (possibly around the 20 dollar range and I ask for no admin or anything).

I personally find it very unprofessional of Taleworlds to not offer at least one server on each continent which would be similar to what ATS is offering from their own pockets with help from other players.

Both times I have made purchases from TALEWORLDS, M&B 1, and the expansion Warband, I was given an electronic download, no instructions, no box, no jewel case, no nothing.  How's that for saving costs which they could of allocated towards the mega server?

I have supported their company since M&B 1 prerelease and love the direction they have gone with the game.  I feel it stands alone in a sea of copycat misfits that should of never hit the shelves let alone wasted prescious dev time designing them.  Sure the graphics are dated but to be honest would my machine play the game well with better ones?  Probably not.  It's a moot point.  Immersion is key, and the game typically drags a person in quite well.

Beyond that I am left to wonder where the game would be now, in my immense library of possible time sinks I have available to me, if it were not for people like ATS who devote their time void of reimbursement to providing a heightened and enriched online gaming experience which was promised by the company that produced, distributed, and prospered from the game itself yet afaik never truly delivered.  Unless of course you consider the fact they offered the tools to develop our own servers to bring their game to life in the promised multiplayer mode.

ATS you deserve a medal for your time and contributions to this game, and honestly - boo on you taleworlds.

My upcoming plan is to open up a medium sized battle server (maybe around 32-40, assuming I have enough budget/donations, but nothing is certain yet.),
so the epic siege would stay untouched.

I'm going to ask my major donators' opinions before I make this major decision. Stay tuned.

If you were to donate around $20/mo, I would be giving you admin+reserved slot no matter what, that's enough budget for half of the battle server, and you would own half of it, so you would deserve it. Not abusing admin rights is all I ask.

I will donate $$$ as promised earlier, but I am waiting till next month atm.  Opened a business downtown on the 1st which tapped me dry and am currently climbing out of a hole financial wise.  I hate coat tailing but atm that's all I have to offer for at least the next few weeks.  Crossing my fingers that the player counts keep rising slowly in the meantime, unless that's my imagination and this is nothing but an ammalgimation of everyone onto one mass server now.

No problem.
We had 90 players at peak times, I'm sure we will be seeing more during the weekend, and we will see if the server can take that many haha.

btw, What business did you open, if you don't mind me asking?

Beauty Salon.  More of a re-opening.  Had the business for 10 years out of my home, just decided to move it downtown after trying my hand at the first year of a business admin degree then realizing I don't really want to work in a bank or an accounting office at this point in my life.  Pulled a 3.7 GPA but it really wasn't my thing.  Going to apply the training to the business and see how much it will grow.  I have left the industry (Cosmetology) twice now though, both for short durations, so my clientelle is hurting once again.  No biggie.  Time fixes all.  I'm not the only one working here either, so it's all good.  Still very expensive to even open a small location like this though, thousands, and it still isn't anywhere near how I want it.

There are clients here as I type though, not mine mind you, I'm hiding in a 4x10 foot office I now call home till the phone starts ringing for me again.  The travesty of it all is I'm typing this on my laptop which is gaming illiterate, while my desktop gamer sits idle at home.  Being seperated from my computer is hard, lol, but it's given me time to absorb this forum and even learn a few things.

Words to the wise, for those who don't know - If you hit T while holding w to run, it acts as an autorun feature while you`re supposably type talking.  Wish I knew that after logging miles of wwwwwwwwwww only to die at the hands of a better player instantaneously.  This way I can sip my coffee and stare out the window before being obliterated in a mere button mashing of a 2 handed axe.

You are able to apply what you have learned, and that matters more than anything. My first gaming machine was a laptop with the 6200 graphics, but died due to overheating, and now I'm using desktop. I can feel your pain lol, the experience on desktop is quite different than laptop, in a better way.

btw, warranty doesnt cover coffee spills, be extra careful when you are smashing the keyboard, hehe

After what I like to joke about as work I took my chance to hit the server.  Crickets?  People were complaining their was no one on yet we were like 12+ strong a side, like enough to scroll down when u hit tab, however many that is.  IMHO that's alot of peeps for battle mode.  Would I want to wait longer after I die?  Not really.  To be honest, it was such a great mix of peeps who cares how many we were, we were having fun.  I did of course ragequit, with ample warning, as I was tired from pretending to work all day.

Whatever.  I plan on winning the used socket 939 processor that's anything better then an amd x2 4200+ on sunday, so see you their.  Or perhaps I will choose the graphics card that's any more powerful than an 8800gt.  We will see.

How do you actually edit your server so you can have more players? I've never seen any tutorial or anything.

Hey Fail, what happens if we win(not bloody likely) said prizes, but do not actually want said prizes?

And what conditions are these "used computer parts" in? I wouldn't want to win some broken piece of RAM.
