ATI Omega Driver Problems, Someone please Help

I recently installed the new ATI omega drivers (3.8.413) and now M&B won't start up!

It goes to enter the game, but then CTD's and i get these errors:

And then this (after which M&B quits):


Before now i was using the normal ATI catalysts

System Specs:
AMD athlon xp 2500+
768mb ram
ATI Radeon X1300 256mb

It worked fine before, please help!

Try reinstalling, might just need to rebuild the graphic configuration.

Reinstalling didn't work, though i found something else:

When i run the direct 3d test in dxdiag it fails all three tests with these errors:

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)

I have directx 9.0c so no problems there.

Ill try with the latest official drivers, but im pretty sure it has something to do with the omega drivers, which is saddening, because they are soooo good


EDIT: Weird, i cant get it working with the official drivers either, ill try reinstalling directx and see if that does anything

If Direct X is failing either the drivers are screwed, or the card is.

i have ati radeon too and omega drivers works just perfect. i think you should first make sure that you are using the proper version of omega drivers for your card.

i had the "nothing will be rendered" message and "download directx SDK bla bla" once and i opened dxdiag from control center and enabled hardware acceleration. then it was ok. you may want to check that out. and also again, make sure you are using the proper omega.

another thing i've done was to make the game run with directx7, and no problems.

Do you have an AGP card, beginning with catalyst 7.8 there are massive problems with AGP cards, up to no more 3D support. ( they say it will be fixed in Cat 8.0) Im unsure if omega drivers actually fix it, probably yes, but maybe you screwed something up. Catalyst 7.7 should work.

Uninstall your current driver, reboot,

Use the drivers sweeper to remove what is rest of the driver, reboot,

reinstall driver (and reboot again).

Ok, so i reinstalled directx, nothing.

@Narsilion:
I'm pretty sure that i have the right drivers for my card, since its a x1300 its supported by the latest omega drivers. I have hardware acceleration enabled in my display settings, but there's no setting for that in dxdiag, so im not sure what your talking about. And i've tried it in directx 7, it didn't work .

I have an AGP card, but ive been using 7.9 catalysts up until now with no problems, this only came about after i installed the omega drivers (and it says on the site that it has a fix for the AGP problem, at least a temporary one). So i don't think its the catalysts, but ill try installing the 7.7 drivers and see if that works.

I do know the routine for properly clearing out drivers, i did it already, but not with driver sweeper, so ill try that anyway.

Oh and all my other games work, like battlefield 2, so its a bit wierd that M&B dosen't.

This really looks like a bad driver or directX!

Have you tried:  DirectX Happy Uninstall? With this program you can remove en reinstall directX completely! (Try it at your own risk of course!)

YES! its fixed!

i uninstalled the drivers, deleted all the files starting with "ati" in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folders, ran driver sweeper, reinstalled directx 9c and then installed the omega drivers.

Not sure why it worked this time, as i did the same thing when it first happened, but at least i can now play M&B again!
