Sir Lulzalot

Sergeant Knight at Arms
First of all, mad props for this mod because its the best ****ing mod I've ever played for any game of any genre ( except maybe Desert Combat, but thats a different story).  Anyways I have some questions concerning the invading armies and a few other things.

1- So I'm basically at the point where heretic knights and adventurers and such are running away from me, and I'm struggling to make money to pay for my men.  I want to use one of Magelords tweaks to increase bandits spawned, but does this also apply to Heretic Knights, Rogue Knights, Snake Cult, Noldor, etc?

2- Will the invading armies ever lay siege to castles or loot villages? I'm trying to track a northern army with hopes of jumping into the fray when one of the NPC's attacks, but the damn invaders never stop!

3- Are Ravenstern rangers worth it? The fact that they are cavalry seems like it would mess with battle formations, but their archery skill is to good to pass.

Hello Sir Lulzalot,

Thanks for the kind words, and I am glad you are having a good time.

1. No.. this will not affect any of the specialty troops.  You have to be very very careful with tweaks with any mod as many mods the tweaks will break the mod.  Modders change the source code that changes the text files to a new form.  If you change those text files thinking that they operate one way, when in face they work another.. you will almost certainly have unexpected and unintended results.    My advice here.. get pathfinding up, run after renegade knights, snake cult and Vanskerry raiders for cash..

2- No.  They are wandering hazards.

3. I can say in pop 2.0 we added a foot only version of that ranger.  They are good archers, maybe the 3rd best in the game.. maybe second depending.  Best are Noldor if you can figure out how to get them and the second best may be the Pendor Grey Archers. (which are foot archers).

Best,

Saxondragon

First off, Desert Combat is really awesome. Things get quite extreme when you get DCX or DCFX.

As for making money, my tip is to go to a shop, buy a lance of some sort, then hire about 10-20 recruits. Find smaller bandit armies (8-20) and take them out. You will very quickly make money selling all the loot.

Try and get access to a location to garrison your troops. When you need to scrounge up some cash you can drop off your high level troops and take a reasonable number of weak units out and the random spawns should go back to chasing you. You just have to present a nice juicy target to them, not a hardened army of bloodthirsty knights.

This has the added benefit of not endangering your elite troops in boring money grubbing skirmishes, saving them for the proper epic battles.

While we're throwing out 1.21 questions, are Adventuring Companies ever friendly towards you?  I've only had hostile encounters with them, so as far as I can tell they're just puffed up brigands with appealing loot potential.

Cheers.

Edit:  And Rollotamasi's post below mine got me thinking about honorable characters (by inverse association) -- what are some effective ways to improve one's honor?  I know that you get some for refusing payment after completing a "Hunt down the Killer" quest for a lord, but lord quests seem to be pretty hit or miss in terms of what you're offered, and it seems like noble ladies never want a champion.  Is there some other secret honor-building option that I don't know about?  (Releasing captured lords doesn't count because that implies that I'm advanced enough as a character and competent enough as a player to actually win those kinds of battles, which I am in both cases not).

One of the ways I made some early cash was to loot some villages.  I am now to the point where money isn't much of a concern however I don't fight with a ton of top tier troops.

If you accept a king's quest to frame an enemy lord, then turn it down at the last minute (at the second prompt I think) you get some honor, if I recall correctly, but you lose some relationship with the king. However, if you don't like your current faction this is a great way to rack up some honor prior to jumping ship, because the king will often get into a state where he offers the quest to you every time you ask. So you basically convert your relations with the king directly into honor. But this is overall as hit and miss as the bounty hunter quest.

Another slightly more common quest is village defence. Both the 'train the peasants' and 'rescue the village from brigands' quests will offer a meager item reward at the end. Turning this down sometimes (sadly not always and I down know the variables it uses) rewards you with honor in addition to village relations. In 2.0 there are more reliable ways to gain honor.

With regard to ladies, I think they start to notice you once you have a certain level of relationship with their husband. That's just a hunch though.

Hey guys, first of all, I want to say this mod kick ass. One of the best =]

But here's my noobish question... Sorry for that and OT...
But I really want to know :)

Is there a story line in this mod? If it is, how do I start it?
Thanks for response...

The answer is yes and no.

There is somewhat of a story to the mod. There is not, however, a series of hardcoded quests, a la Bethesda, so you can read what you like into the game, but there are no explicit story quests.

I have a message in blue that the Mystic Mountain Raiders are uniting under one leader to invade Pendor. SO I went to the south east of the map where they usually are... but I still just see small raiding bands of 20 ish.  In a pre 1.21 game, the same type of message about the snake cult had an army of about 1000 snake cultists landing at Cez and stomping through the Empire lands.

Unless that army has been destroyed.. they are there...
