Assigning companions to different roles?

How do I define one member as infantry or archer..etc?

click on them in party, there's a little brown banner by their name, by default it is roman numeral I for infantry, click on it and the other options are there.

In the menu "Clan" you can define them as well.

thanks, weirdly my guy still yells infantry when i select cavalry in battles.
