Speaking of fans, I realised about 6 months ago my chassis fan has seized, greased it today, running at 5-10 degrees less than it did without the fan.

(I only have my Geforce 4200 TI fan and the CPU's apart from the chassis)

Just out of interest, how much are you paying for your case? An Antec 300 costs about £50-55 from what I've seen, and it doesn't seem hard to find better cases for the same if not less with a bit of a search, although Antec is still a solid choice.

Well,the guy thats gonna build it for me (and works in the shop) is a family friend and he'll probably only charge me the buy-in price (and of course taxes,and labour) so normally Id be able to save a few bucks.

how do you not notice your fan is dead?! mine are usually has an annoying dying sound, to torment me
and how do grease a fan? i usually just fix them the "russian way"(from the movie armageddon)

There. Did that a while back, helped a bit.

Yeah that's good. My older fan ran worst at 20rpm. After oiling, ~5000rpm.

thanks, it looks very simple the only problem being the oil  is there a more common source of oil?

I noticed but couldn't be arsed to do anything about it.


Also I didn't grease it in the traditional way, basically it's seized, so I kept spinning it with my finger, until it would slowly turn. Then I obstructed the fan with my penis screwdriver and rubbed my finger around the centre point on which the fan turns, very small about of grease, so hopefully it won't **** it up.
