Assembling a new PC

So as my laptop's motherboard got fried I've decided to get a desktop this time.I've given myself a budget of around 800 euros (purely for the hardware + casing of about 20 euros).
Ive saved quite some time for this and I intend to use it as a game computer.
This is the config I put togheter (with my very limited knowledge of computers):
-Casing: Antec Three Hundred + 600watt voeding
-Motherbord: ASROCK Extreme3
-Processor: AMD Phenom II Quad 955
-Memory: 4Gb ddr3 1333mhz Kingston
-Graphical Card: ATI HD 6850 1GB
-Harddrive: 1TB SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3
-DVD: Nec 24x DVD-RW station
-Netwerk: Gigabit Ethernet Lan
-Sound: Realtek 7.1 CH HD Audio

Any advice is would be much appreciated.

What OS will you be using? And will you be using 32 or 64 bit?

If you go with 64 bit, you could then add some more RAM (6 GB total is good) because 32 bit doesn't recognize more than 3.5 GB of RAM.

Save yourself some cash by going for AMD Phenom II Dual 955 and unlocking the extra 2 cores to make it a quad core. You end up saving about £40, and after a quick check your MoBo does support CPU core unlocking. I'm sure there are plenty of guides around on the web for you if you do go down that route.

Also, what about CPU cooling and such?

Well, Im having it assembled at a local store ( which is actually cheap due to insurance shenanigans) and the config I posted is based on PC I thought of buying.
So if I overlooked a crucial part Id be glad if you notice it and maybe recommend something.

Putting a computer together yourself isn't actually all that hard.

But yeah, your computer looks fine. Just consider what Revilo and I said.

I've had more experience in the Intel/Nvidia brands of parts, but that looks like a pretty good build.

Just upgraded my comp with a phenom II x4 3.2ghz 955be, 4g kingston hyperx 1600mhz, asus mobo with code unlocker and other stuff and corsair 430 psu. Runs smoothly. cost about ~300 euros. Anyways, Your setup Looks good for me.

The big problem with that build is that your motherboard is called assrock. Beyond that it's fine for the money. Only thing that would worry me there is the ATI budget card, if they're using the stock cooler keep an eye on the temperature because ATI's budget fans are somewhat crap. No Phys X support either, but a quad core should be able to take up the slack.

Double post for less work.

Im thinking Im gonna keep the original processor

Im gonna ask the It store guy to recommend a good graphical card some fans that will be able to keep up with long intensive use.

you didnt said what is your budget, what will be your main use for it and if you want to overclock it.
( btw i dont know about that "ASROCK" motherboard but most chipsets has already 5.1/7.1 audio support. )

Gaming desktops, if you buy the parts yourself and either put it together yourself or find someone who will do it for cheap, almost never cost more than $1100.

His 800 euros for a good gaming computer is easily attainable.

Actually, the exact config that's in the OP is for sale for 600 euros ...

Thats quite good actually. I count that my new config would cost about 500 when I get my graphics card in and it's somewhat similar to yours. I didn't buy a new hdd or a dvd drive, though. If I did, would most likely cost the same. I assembled the comp myself. Never had really done it before entirely, just some random parts etc. Went well without any issues.

sorry, i am really tiered right now, mostly just watching at the screen to past the time (that and euro's do not register, i used to see a much larger number in the local currency).

here is your shopping list, without all the junk and with my notes:
AMD Phenom 2 955 3.2Ghz Quad Core AM3
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 AM3

ATI HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 PCIE *  (btw this newer model is more power efficent but not as powerful as 5850)

DDR3-1333 - 2 sticks  *
if you want one 1TB HD, make sure its 7200RPM 32MB cache (check toms for models). anythin wrong with

Antec Three Hundred - is solid but you really dont need 600watt
DVD *

* = whatever is cheapest (as in BOX, no cables, "free" stuff, stupid brands or super duper editions promising you something you dont know anything about)

not sure whats the tax's level at your place and where you buy it but you probably bellow your budget, with room to improve.
not sure how much(if any) but for example you can go for:
Intel Quad Core I5 2500K 3.3GHZ 1155 6MB
Gigabyt GA-P67A-UD3 Socket 1155
or make a little bump for your GPU or whatever.

p.s. take whatever i say with grain of salt, i am tired and i the last PC i bought was few years ago...

The card itself should be fine. ATI's stock fans tend to be slightly underpowered and prone to failing if they get clogged up, but regular cleaning and good airflow throughout the case will handle that.

What you really want to do is make sure the case has decent airflow. If it can mount extra fans they're cheap, they'll cool down the entire system and can even compensate for dodgy fans on individual components.

personally, i never had any problem with stock fans(unless i was OC) and i live in hellishly hot country. (the only exception is the extra two 80-120mm, my casing gets)

i did had a lot of problem with fans getting clogged up until and instead of wasting money on pressurized air later(more like stealing it from tech guys) i just spent an extra few bucks on better case with "filters" on the intake openings (like the one your air condition system has).
