This is just too dumb for a 2008 game  :sad:

Do lords have their head stuffed with straw instead of smart code lines?

Am ranting about how lords behave in 'patrol' mode.
You (as marshal) tell them to go patrol around X castle and they do but they will not join a siege battle, as if it didn't concern them! It has happened a few times already to me. Is this a bug or what?

For example: I tell Lord Baboonhead to go patrol around castle X. He has 170 men and a 30+ relationship with me.
Presumably at his arrival in the area the siege battle had already started (i was not there to be sure) with about 150 enemies attacking the 40 men garrison. He decides it doesn't concern him as he has to 'patrol'. Arrrggghhhh!!! Defend the castle, will you??!!!!!  :evil:
So I arrive at the place too and join the siege. Even if the lord is close he still doesn't join the battle!!!

In my book "patrol around" = "defend". It doesn't mean have a nice walk in the countryside without caring of occasional battles you may see.  :evil:
 
yeah the Ai in this game has it's issues But so do alot of other games. Remember this, this isn't just pre scripted actions that they perform regardless of the situation like in other games taht can be mistaken for intelligence. This is dynamic code, and teh issue is the code doesn't specificy how to react when a castle is under siege and there patrolling it, the smart thing would be to defend the castle. the stupid thing... Well stand around making sure no bandits get anywhere near that damn castle. Of coruse this is just a guess...

I love the way some of them will seige a castle and then just wander off after the first passing caravan. "Me siege castl...oo pretty horsey, me follow!"
 
I like how you can stand on the siege platform and kill an entire garrison one by one. :smile:

They never wise up to that "tactic."
 
You don't have an issue with the AI, honestly it is more of a glitch, he is not doing what you directly told him to.  AI is when they have to think for themselves, without your orders, and they are not very good at that either.  "Hmm... I am bored........I know I will go seige a castle as deep into enemy teritory as possible and force half my lords to follow me!"  Then they get captured and end up losing the war.

At least the sucker COULD join in the battle when i join too, like in normal battles. It's just as if he can't see the enemy. Yeah, seems a bug.
 
Actually I think I was able to get an AI leader to help me with the siege. I told him to follow me; while I was waiting for the ladder, he would obviously run around, but once it was finished he'd came to join in. Well of course he did it on an irregular basis, like in 2/5 attacks. Oh but I don't know if the mod I m playing improved the AI for this specific problem

Err, we are talking siege DEFENSE here, not attack....
 
maybe the lord had poor eyesight (extremely low spotting skill) and it was night?
 
No, it's definitely a bug, or overlooked. It's well known that AI will not take any measures to defend in a pre-existing siege battle. They will walk past and wait for the battle to end.

I suppose it can be argued that the lords can't pass through the siege lines in the on going battle, but then how would the player be able to pass siege lines to defend? Besides, they don't even make any efforts to break the siege/provide reinforcements.

Aaaahh, ok. I guess that settles it.  :smile:

P.S: I did several tries from same savegame. Using follow me as well. No avail. The lord can pass right over the castle but wont join.
 
Nothings Perfect? Not even the brilliance that is Mount&Blade.
If you want something done right do it yourself!

That no one should point out shortcomings and bugs in M&B due to its inherent awesomeness?  :???:

Unfortunately seems the bug is in the code, no way to fix it with a mod.
