arrows appearing on bodies...

Although it does add some realism to the game, and it's a nice idea, i don't think the arrows and throwing weapons sticking in people's bodies works for the game right now. I've gone through many battles and taken a few arrows or throwing spears in the neck or back area, and it just looks ridiculous. Imagine a 6-foot throwing spear wedged diagonaly into the side of my neck and 2 arrows going through my torso and coming out the other side as I prance along on my charger. It just looks silly.

Perhaps the arrows should fade after a few seconds, or maybe arrows and projectiles should only show up if they delivered the killing blow. So if a spear kills someone, you see it, but if they're still alive, you won't see them running around with a spear in their ass.

NO! I like seeing guys runing around with arrows, besides, they aren't gonig to stop and pull them out. Arrows HURT ALOT. ANd I havn't had aN arrow stuck in me since my early days of this game.

i can't argue that they don't look funny. They also look cool, the only problem i have is when there are enough spears and arrows sticking out of a guy to kill an elephant, and he's still running around swinging his sword.

Why not? They just had real men back in the day, that's all.

The only thing that really does bother me is when the projectiles are kind of floating in your body. For instance when a throwing axe is wedged a few inches above my shield and is just kind of floating in front of my face.

This is true. But I don't want fading arrows. In fact, I dont want anything to fade. This is much more unrealistic. There must be an other solution.

If you see a character with a large amount of arrows sticking out of him, it's because whoever shot the arrows is **** at shooting arrows.

I.e. when you start out as a hunter, you are given a foot long bow and a 12 year old's arm. It then sort of makes sense that it takes three shots to kill an unarmoured river pirate. (but you still have the problem that no matter how weak you or your bow is, if you shoot someone with an arrow, the arrow will stick in his body and go out the other side.)

The arrows look awesome, but I think those hand-thrown javelins look a bit silly, because they are way too long to stick like this inside a body. Imo those should disappear instantly/fade away/whatever, but leave the arrows in the body, i like them :)

Annoyence: WHen I am on a cliffside, cav are lined up all bunched up jsut waiting for a grenade at the bottom. I shoot at a head, and it is stuck in the shiled but it is suspended in the air above the shield, and I am at a 75 degree angle ABOVE them.

Also, did I mention that I wanted grenades? In call of duty (well, the demo, I don't have full yet) they run AWAY from the grenades easily. and even threw one back.

Just ignore the grenade ramble if you want.

Well, I can see how it can look rediculous. But, if you think about it, it's not very common to have a half-dozen javelins sticking out of you and still be walking around. Such people are rare.

Now, that being said: What about Blackbeard, who was shot and stabbed 16 times(my count may be off, I haven't read up on him in a while) before dying! Rasputin was poisoned with arsnic cake and wine, he drank all the wine, ate all the cake, and dozed off, then got up, in a panic, the poisoner shot him, then ran up to report Rasputin dead, as he was, up staggers good ol' Rasputin! The guards there shot him, then beat him until he stopped moving. They then put the body in a bag and dumped it into an icy river. Body was found recently (speaking relative to history) and forensics showed he died. . .OF DROWNING! The Duke of York, at Agincourt, reputedly was wounded several times, finally succumbing to wounds after being run through by four (I believe) swords (this last one, I've only been presented in discussion, but have had it come up in several separate ones, I haven't researched it personally, but it's frequency seems to indicate that it is at least accepted legend, if not 100% accurate).

So, it doesn't seem all that far-fetched for some guy to stagger around the battlefield with a few arrows and javelins in him, adrenaline and sheer toughness keeping him up.

Besides, it's damn funny to have a guy knock down one of your men, and set up for the killing blow, only to be nailed in the butt by your Javelin. He has to carry that mamba around with him the rest of the fight, a mark that he shouldn't hit people while they're down. . .that's my job.

Eventually, WAY after our other issues are addressed, we can talk about making the javelins wobble and fall to the ground a few seconds after impact.

For now, we have other fish to fryl

I agree with everything Destichado says, but I wish to add that projectiles that didn't do any damage at all (because of your armor) should not stick in you at all. Generally the reason you see guys wandering around with an entire armory stuck through their chests is that they are wearing very heavy armor, and did not take damage from most of those projectile.

well although I think sticking arrows, javelines and throwing axes look very cool the game sometimes looks really ridiculous.. I remember one of my heroes having a throwing axe sticking to his skull a javelin to his chest and an arrow to his leg and he still was going (almost dead of course) I think thrown/shot weapons that do no damage should just be deflected by your armor

I'm of a mixed opinion on this.

I like seeing the arrows and jarids and axes and such that stick from bodies. In a way, it adds realism ... and looks really awesome. In other ways ... I don't care for it at all. Seeing a knight with seven arms (5 ranged weapons lodged in his body + his 2 arms) walking up a hill towards me, is somewhat absurd.

I, in this case, would probably err on the side of keeping them ... if the options were to keep or discard totally. Preferably though ... one of the in-between ideas may be able to come to light.

Fading out arrows and such ... I would be completely against. That, to me, would detract from the game worse than the multi-pierced men do.

I think nobody would like fading ranged if they had a throwing axe in (yes, in) their head. 'tis fun. You can barely see. Then you see the tip of lance. Then the birds and stars.

I think 7 armed knights are somewhat absurd but not totally. Think like this, the guy has an armor, a thick skin and resistance to pain. So some of those arrows are stuck in the armor, not even maybe reached his skin (0 damage stuff), some of them are only superficial, and if he gets a real good shot, he dies anyway.

I just think that headshots should insta-kill/knockout. So there are no guys running with an axe that split their skull open.

Good point. Even though we are in agreement, I have to say: nearly any explanation could be somewhat feasible ... I still think it is somewhat absurd. People have been known to walk and talk with metal bars stuck through their heads after accidents and such. Thats a feasible excuse why head shots shouldn't insta-kill/knockout and why guys could be running around with their skulls split open.

 Narcissus

Arrows/axes/javelins sticking on bodies is ultra-cool, but on heads it's kinda silly.

So in my opinion :
- arrows should still stick to bodies
- on head shots if it delivers the final blow it will stay on the corpse's head. (gore heaven)
- if it doesn't kill the person it will not stick to his head. (thanks Narcissus)

what do you think ?

Good idea. But i think a vice versa may be implemented as well for headshots.

I mean, instead of a final blow ranged staying on head, there could be a chance that it "enters" the head. Like a critical shot system. So if it's in your head, you get the chance to visit heaven or hell!

There could even be manipulations on items. For example, some throw items may have less damage overall and rather worse balance but they may be specially crafted to do headshots. Or the other way.
