Hey guys,

Am totally new to Batman, and just got Arkham City for my B-Day. What I'm wondering is whether it's worth watching the 'movie,' version on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7LmQQcYYMg) before starting. If I don't, will I be totally lost as to who the characters are, or miss out on key story elements?

Thanks

I have played Asylum, didn't know there was a 'movie' version. Seems as though it'd be a spoiler.

The stories are pretty well self-contained. If you're not really familiar with the characters, Arkham Asylum doesn't really introduce them, at least not in a way that would really help people not familiar with the Batman universe. That said, who doesn't know Batman and the Joker?

I'd say you'll be fine playing City first. Asylum barely even has a story to speak of.

I preferred Arkham Asylum simply because the tigther world served the story narrative well. Arkham city is a great game as well, but it actualled seemed like a shorter experience despite having a larger world.

Thanks for all the replies- decided to cut the middle ground and order Arkham online, then play it through before City.

Thanks Again!

Both are great games. Asylum actually teaches you the controls a bit better than City does, and the controls and moves are pretty much the same in both games. In City you start out with all the moves from the previous game, and it adds a bunch more.

Asylum, in retrospect, mostly serves as a means to set up the story of City, which might confuse you in places if you don't have knowledge of the prior game. Particularly if you're new to Batman. I'm a little late, but getting the first game was a good choice. It should give you a good introduction to the gameplay, some of the major characters, and most importantly the tone of Batman and the Arkham series.
