Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez addressed the Queen directly on his weekly television programme, telling her to return the Falklands to Argentina.

Yeah 28 years after Falkland war, I'm sure they'll just give it up.

So Argentinians are mad because they lost war in which UK took few ****ty islands and now that they have actually found oil and are drilling it, the Argentinians are whining about it?

Won't happen, Argentina's claim to the islands is simply the fact that they're close, which means we need to reignite our claim to the French state, and that they held the islands about 180 years ago. Seeming to ignore the only reason Britain took control was because Argentina ignored the deal struck with the British and consequently ignored all formal protests.

Nothing will happen from this, the UN can't really do much without the security councils backing of which the UK is a permanent member so really it could veto most of the measures taken against it and Argentina is unlikely to go to war yet again as the current government is just whiny, not the Military Junta of 1982.

Oooooh, Those Argies are up to no good again eh?

I'm up for Fawklands round two, lets hope the Sun can come up with some catchy headlines!

'Return the Falklands' Chavez tells the Queen
(The President of Argentina)

Actually Chavez is the president of Venezuela.

Argentina's president is Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. If Chavez was the Argentinian president he wouldn't be taking this to the UN. He would already have troops deployed.

Chavez has warned that if there was another war 'Argentina wouldn't be alone this time'.

Which seems irresponsible as Argentina doesn't want a war, and that no one gives a **** about Venezuela.

Oh plenty of people give a **** about Venezuela. The US namely, and all the nations that surround it, fearing the US reprisals if Chavez walks the talk.

What ? Chavez isn't the president ? then why is he telling the Queen what to do ? it's not his place to even speek :???:

Best thing is last time Argentina tried to get the Falklands back it indirectly put itself in a terrible economic crisis about 15/20 years later through mounting up heaps of debt... not sure they really want to go through that again.

They don't, war is a very, very far removed possibility.

That said the war didn't really create that debt, that was already there, the war was meant to take peoples minds off existing problems.

Wow. I knew South America dictators were idiots, but wow.

It's hilarious that this really isn't front line news. Argentina and Venezuela are making all these angry demands and no ones even listening.

Galtieri is dead and we can still crack Thatcher out of cyro-stasis!

THE IRON LADY WILL STALK THE LAND AGAIN, consuming the first born of every family!

And that's what they are probably doing again: Kirchner's popularity is about 20%, they have raised their wealth x 7 since 2003 (wow, 1 for each year) while the country has (as usual) economic problems.

And Chavez is a loudmouthed idiot anyway. It was hilarious how the Mexican president blew off at him during the Latin-American conference!

Let the retards try. They've been beaten before, they would be beaten again.

The first inhabitants of the Falklands were Brits. The population there has never sought to gain independence which of course if they wished to do so, they would be given the full support of the British government the same as any other British overseas territory. Argentina must be pretty stupid to think that the British would just let go of territory, especially one that might contain enough oil to pay off the national debt. Personally I think they should just shut the **** up.

Fun fact about the Falklands War:

The Gurkhas were deployed to the Falklands during the 1982 conflict. Despite having to deal with a completely foreign climate, landscape and the Antarctic weather, the Gurkhas were well up for a fight; only to be disappointed when the Argentine units they were to face surrendered when they learned it was the Gurkhas coming for them.

My MSG fought with the Gurkhas in Afghanistan - apparently they prefer if they can get so close that they can use their melee weapons.
