Arena needs changing

Anyone thought how impossible it is to win when your an archer against normal people in the arena? The archer should at least be able to change weapons to say a dagger so he got a little chance of surviving. Ive been in the arena on occasions where i have been an archer being attacked by people with swords and polearms and even people on horseback, you cant outrun them and you cant get a decent shot either so...

oh yeh, this is probably on the to do list also but spectators in the arena would be good

i had the same problem until i found the way.

first of all. keep away... always keep as far as you can. you dont have to ba afraid of horses as they cant corner you...

but footmen especially with shields are a pain. but you can always fire one arrow to make them raise shields and then draw and hold another one aiming at their face. then you just wait for them to move for a hit and release the arrow.

instant death!

i do it every time now. i wait for them to come near and when they drop guard its "whack!" through the neck... its so easy i do it on the battlefield too.

get your athletics and your bow skill high and you ll have no problem

It's not impossible, merely very very difficult for a beginning hero to win as a foot archer. Your opponents are all arena champions so naturally they're faster on foot and more skillful than a beginning hero.

Anyway, this topic was discussed at length in the Discussion Forum. One simple tactic that helps - and is usually possible -- is to order your arena allies to dismount and you take one of the newly free horses as being on horseback helps to avoid shielded footmen. Telling you to increase your athletics and archery skills is true, but not immediately useful; once you're in the arena you go with the skills you have.

So, I don't think the arena should necessarily be changed because a beginning foot archer has it rough. There are additional arena suggestions around to make the arena more interesting and a mini-game in itself, but making it easier isn't one of the high priority changes.

I realised something quite effective against people with one-handed swords and shields in the arena though, because it's a pain when they get up close to you - especially when you're not as fast as they are. If this guy gets close to you then hold down the left mouse button and keep the arrow trained on him. As programmed he will be in guard mode with his shield up, so you wait for him to go to attack before you fire the arrow, thus lowering his guard. Hopefully you should get a head shot and even if you don't you should be able to resume this until he's dead.

As for those with two-handed swords, you're basically dead if they can get close but usually you can pick them off before they get to you. Admittedly it is hard when their team is composed of two people with two-handed swords and one with a one-handed sword and shield as I had the misfortune to face. Since both of my team were on horseback and went galloping off, oblivious to the enemies I was left with my knees shaking as three of them hacked me to death.

I don't really have much problem with those on horseback. You can always move next a wall forcing them to collide into the wall so you can step back and turn them into a pincushion or at the very least make sure they can't hit you from behind.

After awhile, you'll find that being a foot archer is one of the scenarios where you are guaranteed to win. And most fun too.

RJK.

I win the quickest and easiest fights as an archer. Here's how:

If youre on a horse dismount.

Stay near your horse and use it to "baulk" (get in the way and stop) any lancers charging you... giving a good chance of a carefully aimed headshot.

Bring down their horses. Take out the lancer's shield first though.

Take out non-shielded opponents first, starting with the archer(s). Leave horse archers last of all though.... theyre harmless 9 times out of 10.

Support your teammates coz 1. when their done with them theyre coming for you next and 2. their shields are facing your allies, not you, so you can pick them off without it being blocked.

Dont EVER run or its a blunt blade in the back, lights out and minus 200credits.

If it gets too hairy jump on a horse and get some distance, dismount and if youre any good then youve just won the 273rd fight in a row.

Cant think of anything else but this should be pretty much fool proof when combined with the other posts in this thread.

Foot archer is so easy for my character , I think it's possibly because he has athletic's 4 and 200 archery skill....but that's just a guess

Foot archer is easy , because a sheilded opponent , whilst a tad harder , is still easy. Just keep spamming arrows at their sheilds untill they break , you get 3 quiver's of arrows after all , i can break 3 sheilds and still kill everything in the arena (including my men LOL)

Could we have a looped piece of crowd noise for background as well. With a brief cheer when someone is KO'd and when a side wins?

Well you have to remeber , the arena is just a small town thing. I mean i can't exactly imagine seeing hundred's of people coming to each Arena match. It's more likely to be 3-15 people. And in that case a 'cheer' might not be appropriate.
