Arena needs a serious tweak

Here are some suggestions:

1. Let the player to choose what kind of weapon he wants to fight with (one handed, two handed, ranget etc) so it fits his char.
Alternativly allow player to fight with the equipment he has.

2. Let him choose what kind of fight would he want? Allow him to choose the number of allies as well as number of opponents.

3. Mach the opponents skills and equipment with the player, so that during early stages of the game, he fights easy oponents, while later on, he can fight knights or black knights (or their arena equivalents).

4. I think every city should have an arena, not just Zendar. And if not, at least build arena in more citys.

5. Most importatnt thing: allow higher bids during fights (500 being the tops you can bet) and make the winings higher as well (50-200 denars, depending on the difficulty of opponents).

Arena is a very cool option, but as it is now, it's pretty much usless. I know it's just a fun thing to do between the real fights, and player should not spend much time in there, but I think expanding it a little would be a good idea.

It would be cool if there was a leader board in each town! like a top 10 and you can challenge heroes. Your army vs. theirs..... or 5 vs 5

My original plan was to add an arena to each town and let each town have its own tournament rules and system. I'll try to add at least a few new arenas as soon as I have the time.

As it is now, increasing the rewards and betting limits could be too unbalancing since an expert player can win almost all fights.

Expert player wins all fight none the less. Increasing the rewards would make it worthwhile. And to make sure expirienced players don't spend all their time in the arena, increase the difficulty, make opponents harder, so that it's not always a sure win for the player. Besides, the biggest fun lies in regular battles anyway.
To make sure a fresh char doesn't get a small fortune early in game thx to arena, bind the betting amount to lvl.
lvls 1-10 - 10-100 denars
lvls 11-20 - 150-250 denars
lvls 21-30 - 300-400 denars
lvls 30+ - 450-550 denars
Or something like that.

Yeah, I've got the same problem. I don't have money to hire soldiers, my lvl is not high enough to fight anything exept river pirates, but they are rare and usually just run away from from me. That's why I figured higher amounts of cash you could bet in the arena would be in order.
I also think every char should start with a basic horse and a little better weapon then the butter knife:smile:

Fight in tourneys for petty cash untill you can affort a decent melee weapon (I got the stick) then the Pirate hunting missing should give you a shield. Now you're set (more or less) hire a few peasants and seek pirates, don't go after the large squads, but fighting 5-6 should be fairly easly. Make sure you don't kill them, but capture them. Keep going back to town to sell them. Save up to buy a better weapon. You're units should be getting better also, take it slow and start going after bigger game, capture/kill/sell them. Sell all the items you don't need. Keep repeating. As you raise in levels and begin to see more cash the game will get easier. That's how it was for me anyhow.

Yeah thats what i was doing but it just takes soooooo long!

Also, having created my character primarily for archery, it's even harder!

Yeh that's true, I made mine the same way. I just had to fight melee until I could afford the crapiest bow available, after that things started going pretty well.

Maybe you could have some special arrows or bolts that make enemies unconscious? I saw that before, but I don't remember a name and I can't find pictures of it...it's just a normal arrow with a bag full of sand or something like that instead of the arrowhead...so you could make prisoners as an archer as well. It could make less damage or be more expensive so normal arrows are still used.

BTW, 24 arrows isn't very much, how can you have more arrows in a fight?

Put more quivers into other weapon slots. You can have up to 72 arrows for a fight - bow + 3 quivers.
P.S.
Pavlov? Is it turkish or russian game? Half forum residents are at least slavic .

Too bad I concentrated on bows and shield+one handed sword. I thought this would be a good idea after fighting with a two handed sword against an archer in the tourneys

I would love to see this. I hate trying to win an arena fight without a lance when the 2 other enemies I fight have them too, otherwise it seems impossible.

I prefer the way if forces you to use a bunch of weapons, its the only way to make sure you cant be certain to win.

perhaps make some fights unbalanced? As in player vs. 3 or 4 or more enemies. Then maybe double or triple the reward. That way more experienced players could still win big in the arena without messing with the balance.

I don't think you should have any control over the tournament. Why should he listen to you if he started the arena?
It's also a good way to get experience with different weapons.

Ha-ha! An other great idea. How about making it like the training - if you'll win like 10 fights in a row - you'll be awarded with title of Arena champion, and will be able to choose your sides, and call for handicap - to get more rewards if you win.
Coupled with not full health return after then fight (like 3/4) - it would be simply the best.
